Default 6th Gen Sound Systems

I've have looked around this forum for quite a while in search of info about sound systems for my '03 JG. I reckon many of the Gen 6 MCs would have similar characteristics and would appreciate input. I want a system with an 8 or 9 inch display that is adjustable. I know it will partially cover some of the controls (vent direction *****, for instance), but I can live with that. The thing that concerns me is that some functions are made into the stock radio and I don't want to lose functionality. So far, the Sony 8000 series looks pretty good... I like to hear about fellow forum member's experiences.

I have one of them Pioneer double din head units. The screen can tilt and pop out to your liking without blocking any controls. Even if it did block it, its just a matter of pushing a button a couple times to raise the screen a couple notches. I didnt lose any functionality. Theres other ways to reset oil life and whatnot. Theres adapters (I dont remember the install process tho) that connect the stereo to the car's computer interface (I guess youd call it).

However, there are plenty of horror stories about people who switched out the stock stereo. Maybe I just got lucky.

I have a Pioneer system installed, the only functionality you lose is the ability to program a new fob and oil life reset. I'm pretty sure thats the only 'important' ones you will lose, but you can always reset the oil life monitor with the gas pedal. It's an easy tradeoff that's worth ditching the stock radio for in my opinion.

If you're really concerned about the stock radio, they used to make a harness that plugged into the stock wiring then gave you wires for your aftermarket radio to connect to in the dash, but then also had a set of wires to run to the trunk to relocate thr stock radio (or at least allow you a place to connect one) in the trunk.
