Typically most lowering springs are going to up the spring rate as well. Now that you have less travel until you hit the suspension limits, the increased spring rate will do a better job at preventing that from happening.
The downside with cut stock springs is that you're more likely to hit the bump stops. You also don't get the benefit of a higher rate spring, so it's more just for show.
With how cheap the parts are, DIY coilovers are another good option. You can pick the spring rate you want, and the height too. You can slam it for a show, and then lift it to a reasonable height for daily driving.
