Question 5 Speed in Fifth Gen?

So I was doing some research on Wikipedia(I know its not the most reliable source buts it's the best I could find) and I found that the fifth generation Pontiac Grand Prix equipped with the 3.4L DOHC V6(LQ1) could either be ordered with a 5 speed manual or an automatic transmission. I also found that the same V6 was offered in the fifth gen Monte Carlos. So I was wondering, hypothetically speaking would you be able to swap the 5 speed out of a Grand Prix in to a Monte Carlo? If so what other engines would this transmission be compatible with?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

That was what I was thinking. Cause I know we have a fair amount of 5th gen owners. I was also thinking about getting one if I were to get rid of my 4th gen. I would love a 5 speed.

it should indeed be possible to put the 5 speed in... i know somewhere i saw someone but a 5 speed in a 97-03 body style grand prix, too.
if you're serious into questions about that kinda swap, the guy to talk to is Dave 'Trannyman' from triple edge perfrormance. He's EXCELLENT with this stuff.

I wish that Monte's were available with a 5speed manual...or better yet a 6 speed manual. I would LOVE to have a stick shift again, sometimes I miss that about my Cavalier.

My Monte would scream with a 6speed manual tranny! Hold on to your lug nuts! LOL!

Yes the 5 speed from the 91-93 grand prix/luminas (getrag 284) whould work. It would fit behind the 3100, 3.4L, 3400 or the 3800. Alot of people talk about this swap by not alot of people actually do it. First off the transmission is very rare and even if you found a donor car, if you were to break anything in that transmission you are pretty much up a creek. Your best bet would be to find a complete 5 speed car and swap everything over to the monte. It would be a good swap for a 5th gen if you had the skills, knowledge, time and patience to do it.
