30 PSI!!!??

So I took my Monte to the dealer to get the "service tire monitor sytem" Message fixed, and a new lower seat somethin or other, and a new remote transmitter for the keyless entry. Anyway, he said that the tires are supposed to have no more than 30 lbs in them, i thought he was nuts, but it says it on the insdide of the door. "30 PSI". I thought it seemed a lil low no? So now im stuck with a 04 Grand am loaner 4dr... not bad I guess. At least its not a saturn..lol

RE: 30 PSI!!!??

I run 32 all the way around, and they tend to heat up to 34.

I am very happy with the results.

RE: 30 PSI!!!??

Well i think I heard that mike FlynhghR runs 40 in his!? Im so confused...lol I want good gas mileage, This morning they were at 27 psi then I started driving they got up to 31, but i dunno. The dealer was like well this is whats throwing your service tire message. So he went to scan them all, cause the RF tire wasnt even giving a read out, and his scanner wasnt able to read the car, so im getting a whole new system. And the 6 way power seat, the front wont adjust up or down...so i get a new one of those as well... weird. And also with the remote transmitter, I cant get it to activate till im at least 50 ft from it. He said that also is tied into the Tire Pressure Sensor... so well see how it goes when I get it back tomorrow.

I can't run over 39 or my "check tire pressure" warning comes on!

RE: 30 PSI!!!??

Most car manufacturers call for a lower tire pressure to improve the ride and handling to a degree. If you talk to a tire dealer, they recommend a higher pressure for better tire life and increased fuel mileage. The lower pressures will make the tires run hotter, causing premature failure.Plus if you do have a slow leak, there isn't as much room for error.Look at what happened to Ford with the Explorers blowing tires and rolling over. They were recommending a low pressure, like 26 PSI to try to make the ride more attractive to buyers that were used to a car-like ride verses a choppy truck like ride.

I run 32 PSI coldin my 06,and the tire pressure moniter has never complained.
