30 PSI!!!??
So I took my Monte to the dealer to get the "service tire monitor sytem" Message fixed, and a new lower seat somethin or other, and a new remote transmitter for the keyless entry. Anyway, he said that the tires are supposed to have no more than 30 lbs in them, i thought he was nuts, but it says it on the insdide of the door. "30 PSI". I thought it seemed a lil low no? So now im stuck with a 04 Grand am loaner 4dr... not bad I guess. At least its not a saturn..lol

RE: 30 PSI!!!??
I run 32 all the way around, and they tend to heat up to 34.
I am very happy with the results. |
RE: 30 PSI!!!??
Well i think I heard that mike FlynhghR runs 40 in his!? Im so confused...lol I want good gas mileage, This morning they were at 27 psi then I started driving they got up to 31, but i dunno. The dealer was like well this is whats throwing your service tire message. So he went to scan them all, cause the RF tire wasnt even giving a read out, and his scanner wasnt able to read the car, so im getting a whole new system. And the 6 way power seat, the front wont adjust up or down...so i get a new one of those as well... weird. And also with the remote transmitter, I cant get it to activate till im at least 50 ft from it. He said that also is tied into the Tire Pressure Sensor... so well see how it goes when I get it back tomorrow.

RE: 30 PSI!!!??
I can't run over 39 or my "check tire pressure" warning comes on!
|
RE: 30 PSI!!!??
Most car manufacturers call for a lower tire pressure to improve the ride and handling to a degree. If you talk to a tire dealer, they recommend a higher pressure for better tire life and increased fuel mileage. The lower pressures will make the tires run hotter, causing premature failure.Plus if you do have a slow leak, there isn't as much room for error.Look at what happened to Ford with the Explorers blowing tires and rolling over. They were recommending a low pressure, like 26 PSI to try to make the ride more attractive to buyers that were used to a car-like ride verses a choppy truck like ride.
I run 32 PSI coldin my 06,and the tire pressure moniter has never complained. |
RE: 30 PSI!!!??
yah, even i run more than that...usually 35-40psi
lower seat somethin or other!!! lmao!!! love the technical terms in this thread :) been readin too many of my posts now! lol |
RE: 30 PSI!!!??
the higher the pressure the more the ride deteriorates too
|
RE: 30 PSI!!!??
What do you run yours at Cain?
|
RE: 30 PSI!!!??
Figured youd like that wiz... lol
|
RE: 30 PSI!!!??
30-32 butI like better handling over anything else
|
RE: 30 PSI!!!??
ORIGINAL: 06LT3 Figured youd like that wiz... lol see i'd rather have better gas milage, i'm already very happy with the ride, but i'd personally rather have better milage :) |
RE: 30 PSI!!!??
I only run 40PSI because it's good for mileage, and the tires wear more evenly. I don't notice a huge difference in the ride, and the tires say Max of 44 lbs. (I run 38 cold, 40 hot) I've had it as high as 41 and never got a check tire pressure warning.
I'll lower it and see if it effects anything, but I'm pretty sure that when I got it they were all around 36 psi cold. |
RE: 30 PSI!!!??
So were mine thats why I was confused... Oh well I will add more when i get her back..

RE: 30 PSI!!!??
A quote from the link Space gave:
[ul][*]Over-inflation Over-inflation can be a problem too. An over-inflated tire rides on just the centre portion of the tread. The smaller contact area means reduced grip on the road, leading to a harsh ride, handling issues (such as steering and stopping problems) and increased wear on tires and suspension components. Seventeen per cent (17%) of vehicles in Canada have at least one tire that is over-inflated by 20%. [/ul] http://www.betiresmart.ca/images/spacer.gif http://www.betiresmart.ca/images/spacer.gifI thought that was funny... Is it cause of the Temp or just the Canadians?... lol jk Wizz and Fox |
RE: 30 PSI!!!??
I have my serious doubts about others running 40-44 lbs.
Seriously prematurely wears out the center threads causing handling problem as postedabove from Space's link. http://www.betiresmart.ca/images/spacer.gif http://www.betiresmart.ca/images/spacer.gif |
RE: 30 PSI!!!??
I keep my tires at 32 psi (cold)
after driving they get up to 34 psi So far no sign of tire wear at all She just turned 10,000 mile today :( |

RE: 30 PSI!!!??
it may be 30 for the ls's and lt's with the smaller wheels/tires.. but I know on the SS, the door sticker says to run 32psi... I usually keep mine at 33 to 34....
|
RE: 30 PSI!!!??
My door sticker says 30 all the way around. They know more about tire wear then I do so I run the tires at 30 (cold).
You run too much or not enough pressure in the tires you risk wearing them out either in the center or the side walls. TOO much pressure will cause traction issues especially in wet conditions. Not enough can get you similar results. You wanteven tread contact at all times. |
RE: 30 PSI!!!??
http://www.betiresmart.ca/images/spacer.gif Tires are often the most neglected parts of a vehicle. And yet, they are among the most important and easily cared for. By adopting these few simple tire maintenance practices, you can increase your vehicle's fuel efficiency, reduce harmful emissions, save money and make your vehicle safer. [ul][*]Measure your tire pressure monthly using a good quality tire gauge. A visual inspection is not sufficient to detect under or over-inflation problems. [*]Have your tires aligned annually. [*]Tires should be balanced approximately every 20 000 km, or when drivers feel a vibration. [*]Rotate your tires regularly. [*]Monitor tread wear and replace tires when your tire tread is worn out. [*]Conduct a visual check for embedded stones, glass and other foreign objects that could work their way into the tire and cause a leak. [/ul]Alignment Proper alignment is an important part of tire maintenance. Poor alignment will cause your tires to wear unevenly and you may experience handling problems, such as "pulling" or vibration. Poor alignment will also increase your fuel consumption. Common practice is to have your alignment checked annually, or every 25,000 km. Balancing Wheels need to be balanced. If they are out of balance, you may feel a pounding or shaking through the steering wheel or your seat. This pounding could shorten the life of suspension components, lead to uneven tire wear (bald spots) and increase fuel consumption. Rotation Regular rotation will minimize wear and prolong the life of your tires. Rotation will also reduce the risk of sudden tire failure. Front tires work harder than rear tires as they must bear the scrubbing action of steering as well as rolling wear. You can prolong the life of your tires by rotating them. Full size spares should be part of the rotation pattern. Rotate your tires according to the vehicle manufacturer's recommendation, found in the owner's manual. Or, talk to your tire professional to find out how - and how often - the tires on your vehicle should be rotated. Common practice is to rotate tires approximately every 10,000 km. Tread Tires are designed to grip the road, allowing your vehicle to start, stop and go around corners safely in any weather. The treads that accomplishes this wear out over time, but drivers can take precautionary steps to prolong the life of their tires. Properly maintaining your tires will increase their life. It is extremely important to check your tire treads for signs of wear. Proper treads allow for normal handling of your vehicle and help prevent skidding and hydroplaning. Tires are manufactured with a "wear bar" that tells you when there is less than 1.6 mm (2/32 inch) of tread depth remaining - when you see this wear bar, the tire must be replaced. You could also try the penny test: place a penny in the tire's groove with the Queen's crown facing down. If you can see the top of the Queen's crown, the tire needs replacing. Damage It is important to perform regular visual inspections of your tires for signs of damage and excessive wear. Look for embedded objects, such as rocks, nails or glass. Catching problems early can save you money and prevent a sudden tire failure. Storage When not in use, tires should be stored upright in an indoor location, out of direct sunlight or exposure to strong artificial light, heat, ozone (electrical motors) and hydrocarbons. If tires are stored on their rims, the pressure should be reduced to approximately 15 psi to avoid cracking or deformation. |
RE: 30 PSI!!!??
Let's talk alignment for a minute.
I swear my girlfriend hit every single pot hole and stress crack on I-75 & I-275 on the way to/from the Monte Nats last week. (who's idea was it anyways to let her drive my car?) [sm=headbang.gif] |
RE: 30 PSI!!!??
I just about wore out my winter Michelin Pilots at 30psi. Centers are almost gone. I'm running 28.5psi im my BFG 18's. 30psi was too much.

RE: 30 PSI!!!??
Got it back today. Got all new sensors, theres a TSB about it, new remotes and it works awesome. New tire monitor, its all tied in to the keyless entry and remote start keyfobs. Also got a new Seat base. Im happy, now i have to go back for the headlights. lol.
|
RE: 30 PSI!!!??
I'm about to take mine in for the pressure sensors, one quit all together, and the other likes to read 90 psi so I get the check pressure at every turn of the key, 'real' air gauge says an even 30. I try to keep all four around 30.
I thought that maybe those two sensors were just messing up because I've had slow leaks in both tires and have had them patched. But now I'm guessing that this is more of a general problem. |
RE: 30 PSI!!!??
Never had a problem with my tire sensors or keyless remote range...Hmmm

RE: 30 PSI!!!??
I've seen a few posts about the problems with thetire monitor / key fob thing / poor distance with remote. It seems to be on the 06 models. Does anyone know if it was still a problem with 07's. I haven't had any issues........yet????
|
RE: 30 PSI!!!??
I think the problem was early 06 Monte and Impala's
They have updated the 07's |
RE: 30 PSI!!!??
I think waaayyy too much about horsepower. I thought this post was going to be about boost when I started reading it. :)
