3.9 monte
Ok so i'am new to the monte carlo cars and i just got a 2006 3.9 monte and love it. The car def has pick up and speed for being stock. But i would love for it to be faster and maybe have a supercharger or what not. Anyways my question for everyone is do you think these cars will become popular to tune and if the aftermarket will pick up on them? I notice the 01 montes to 05 seem to have alot of parts both performance and visual! So iam hoping its the same for our 06 and up! Let me know what you guys think!
Nelson Tunewell programs your pcm, for faster timesand transmisson tune for quicker and firmer shifts. From what I heard the K&N intake for the SS well work. Magnaflow has a Cat-Back system for the 3.9L. Eibachhas a lowering kit for it. Those are just some things for starters.
Glad you're enjoying the car! Noone makes a CAI for the car yet, at least not one specifically designed for the 3.9L engine, it's a brand new engine, soit'll take a lil while before we start seeing lots for it. Expect a flood of parts if the Camaro does start out with a 3.9L in the base model. I mean to me it's only obvious since the engine has great power per pound.
The new3.6 has good power, but it wasn't even designed by GM, and I hear they're having NVH problems with it.
This is only a matter of opinion, but I find that mine seems to run better on premium, even though it's not "required" per the manual. Takes a good half tank before you really notice it... but I think the computer picks up on the fact that you're using premium and adjusts accordingly.
I think the cars look great with the larger 17" wheels, so lowering it to me, would be a bit overkill. Plus here in Iowa those extra inches can really count! Lots of high angle driveways and such.
I wish you many miles in your new ride! Let us know if you find anything new out there!

Yeah i'am hoping the camaro gets it. It will def make the aftermarket pick up for the3.9!! But yeah i was planning on getting the cat back exhaust and tinting the windows and prob just going with some bigger rims instead of lowering it i know 20s will fit i'am just not sure how that will look!?
Once agian it's all about what you like. Some people like the 20's on this cars some don't. Personally I think they take away from the car, puts all the focus on the rims also not as great as performance. I'm going to upgrade my 17's for some Foose 18's next summer.
Congratulations on the new car.
I really haven't put my 3.9 through any real moves yet (not sure what I'm waiting on?) but I definately love driving the car.
Make sure you keep coming back to the forums and keep us updated on any upgrades you do.

I've put the monte up against a few cars like a 04 v6 mustang and some honda's it holds up great haven't lost in it yet. But i guess having a supercharger under the hood wouldn't hurt in case i do run into a bigger race down the road. Plus i would love to see the power they could put out since they do start off at such a great factory horsepower. It seems such cars as the cobalt it starting to get turbo's and what not so i'am hoping the same for those who have the 3.9
