The big thing is the DOHC, they can rev higher than a pushrod style motor & thats where alot of the power is gained it revs 1600 rpms more than the sc motor does, my Edge has a 3.7 with 305hp

Not only that, but it is a 24 valve engine. The more air you can get in/out of an engine the more power you can produce.

It's also direct injection. That makes a big difference. It's not so much the DOHC that allows it to rev higher as it is the shorter stroke and lighter rotating mass. Case in point, the Chevy 302 small block that was in the 67-69 Z28s. Absolute dog under 3,000 RPM but that thing revs till the end of time it seems. The very first Chevy Big Blocks were the same way. Lighter rotating mass allowed them to rev higher (albeit not nearly as high as the 302) than the vast majority of the SBCs. That's how the LS motors are able to rev higher as well. I got to test drive one of the new Camaros and it pulled HARD clear almost to 7k RPM. Rotating mass and length of stroke determines how high it can rev more than whether it's pushrod or OHC.
