I actually just moved to North Wales... I should probably update that

I would be willing to HELP, but I don't have ANY of my tools, I keep all of that in the Poconos in a garage.

Don't fall in love with a car and buy it because of that. Objectively it's too much and you will need a lot of work probably.

Yep...I've kind of written off the car at this point. The advice here was good enough to wake me up from my dream.

BTW...if anyone is interested, I did see a listing for a 2002 Earnhardt in New York with 11 miles on it. Yes, 11 miles. It looked to have been brand new off the dealer lot. Asking price was around $31,000 IIRC.

If only...

I was looking at this one when I bought mine with 23 miles. He was going to give it to me for 26k with all fluids changed. In the link below he was only asking 25k

It looks like that $25,000 is the starting bid, and there's a reserve on that auction. The dealer's site I think listed the sticker at $30,999.

I think I should start playing the lottery.

The other thing with that car is this...

Car lots almost always put an extra mark-up on the specialty Montes. Especially the Dale Earnhardt 6th gens (2002 & 2004). Just my opinion, but... If he's asking $4400 for it, if the car was a normal 2002 SS, he would be asking A LOT less for it. And he'd still be making a profit. Kinda tells you something about the car.

Good point.

Just for my own peace of mind, I went back and checked the numbers that I ran when I first saw the listing and before posting here.

The NADA value for an 02 SS with that mileage is $6235 for "clean retail," and $4100 for a "clean trade-in."

The KBB value is listed as $6211 for "excellent retail," and $4711 for "excellent private party" (and $4386 for "very good private party").

The Edmunds pricing is $5488 for "dealer retail," and $4124 for "private party."

And, from all the looking I've done at dozens of vehicles online in the last week...and not just Montes, it seems that (in my area, at least) most car dealers are in the ball park of the "private party" prices.

EDIT: I found the listing on the dealer's website. There it's listed at $5500, and the $4400 is the Cars.com price, which also seems to be the norm ($1000 less on Cars.com).
