If its a matching numbers 350 than its not a true SS as the 1970-71 SS cars only came with 454's. Go to www.fgmcc.com and there is a section to read on what to look for to determine if you have a true SS car. True SS cars are fetching pretty high dollars even for ones that need a lot of work. If its in good shape, it might be a nice car to buy anyway. I have a non SS 70 Monte which I really like. Good luck.

Hi `George,

From the infor & price you posted it sounds like a decent price
for a first Gen Monte Carlo.
I would really inspect the body/engine & suspension etc.
If you don't have knowledge on engines/body etc., I would
search out a friend that does to inspect vehicle for problems.
Also do a Google's search on what 1st Gen's are selling for
nationwide. Below is one link to check on selling price/value
Good Luck & let us know what you decide.

Sounds like it's not a true SS, but if it is really rust free, and the the major parts of the interior are good - dash/console it could be worth $3500. Finding a 1970 Monte with no rust would be rare. Of course the seller says "most body work complete" you need to find out what that body work was. Bondo = no good. Some people's idea of "no rust" is questionable.

i picked my 70 monte up for 1500 running and driving.i have KBB it with some different options that where available in 1970.my first one was a base monte with a 350 and auto trans.came out to be about $5,000 in the worst condition.now with the 454 and 4speed worst condition it was like $7,500 and the best condition was close to $30,000.so i see mine as a profit.paid 1,500 and worth at least 2k-2.5k.but i never plan on getting rid of it.also in 1970 they only made 159,000 montes with a 180,000 mark.only made that many because of the strike that happened down at the plant and only 3,823 of those montes were SS's.i would buy it but i wouldnt pay more than 2.5k for it.

if the car is solid, then yes the car is worth the $3500 thats he's asking, but realize that it;s not a true SS

Found an old pic of my 1970 Monte.
This was taken in about 2000 when the paint still looked good. I had the body redone and repainted in 1993. Its painted the factory Fathom Blue. Unfortunately the clearcoat is coming off and it doesn't look that good anymore. It has another paint job in its future.

Default 70 mc

.....Shouldn't there be a SS454 badge just behind the front tires
on the molding above the rocker panel ? If I remember, GM didn't
go to alot of trouble to make 1st gen MC's look like SS's because
of market appeal. Luxury coupe and all that stuff.........
