the silverado we just fixed up @ work we took all the chevy names off of it, that stupid decal accross the tailgate looked retarded, looks way cleaner without it, and just having the chevy bowtie in the middle of the front is enough

EXACTLY.
To my knowledge, the only MCs to have "Chevrolet" printed on them in any form are the '86-'88 LSs and the '83-'88 SSs (can't remember if all of them have "Chevrolet" spelled out on the front fascia or not).
And, actually, the early MCs (with the exception of the ones noted), had very few markings of being Chevrolet. The ONLY bowtie was on the rear ... underneath the Monte Carlo script. Otherwise ... the car and the wheels featured the Monte Carlo emblem....

Cool! I never really noticed either. Its amazing how we recognize brands by their symbols - Pepsi, Microsoft (Windows), and even McDonaldscould take their name off of their products and we would still recognize them too. Interesting too how Chev is the only car company that has removed their name from their cars - is this specific to just the Monte?
