KPY33 08-20-2010 01:33 AM

Thanks for this bumping, been a very useful reference as I've been learning more and starting to mod my monte.

please excuse my ignorance, what are L36 and L67?? all I know is that I have a v6 3800 ss

zipper 09-02-2010 09:05 PM

L36 = Naturally Aspirated Series II 3800 v6

L26 = Naturally Aspirated Series III 3800 v6

L67 = Supercharged Series II 3800 v6

L32 = Supercharged Series III 3800 v6

L36 is the RPO code for the N/A 3.8L Series II while L67 is the RPO code for the Supercharged 3.8L Series II. An RPO code is a code GM uses to designate a feature or part on a vehicle.

How can I find out which one is mine?

It sounds like your Monte is a 2004 non supercharged SS. If you open the hood, the engine cover will say something like "3800 V6 Series II". Then if you look at the list that I gave you, you will find "Naturally Aspirated Series II 3800 v6" and that is listed as an L36.

ctownbandit 12-01-2010 08:36 PM

????

how can i tell if it is a L67 and so forth all i know is mine is a 3800 series 2

Jomao_o 12-01-2010 08:40 PM

Yours is N/A Naturally Aspirated (L36) Enjoy the modding.

I'm an Airmen on a budget. I was thinkin cold air, headers, high flow cat, twin glass packs and maybe a chip. What will that do for me? I was lookin at pulley kits for my S/C but now I'm scared i'll get in too deep after readin all this. Thank you very much for this information on the superchargher though.

biggriggs 03-10-2011 04:07 PM

CAI and headers are great mods for the s/c 3800, but a smaller pulley is mostly where more power is going to come from.
Swapping out mufflers is only going to change the sound of the exhaust (stock mufflers are fine up to about 400whp), and there are no "chips" for these cars.

Keep doing your research, and start a new thread if you have any questions. I don't think that people generally check these stickies for new posts.

Hey guys.I am new to the forum. Just wanted on opinions on some mods i was thinking about adding to my 2000 Monte Carlo SS. I wanted to get 2 Magnaflow mufflers with tips,a K&N Synthaflow air filter, and I'm sure I'll find some other little things later. Just wanted to know if anyone else has Magnaflow and don't like how it sounds or whatever. Thanks.

I enjoy my Magnaflow. It was part of the GMPP kit and I am happy with it.

I would save the air filter money and get a REAL cold air intake kit. I wouldn't just swap out the panel filter.

chris5115 10-17-2011 04:07 PM

alright thanks man..What specific muffler do you have? and do you have a tip on it?

Under my name you can check out the garage where I have a lot of info on my build.

It's a discontinued cat-back exhaust system that was made by Magnaflow for GM. But it's a full magnaflow system.

chris5115 10-21-2011 07:49 AM

Alright, I appreciate the help man. I also was looking at headers and valve covers. I don't plan on getting too much done to the engine right now but maybe when I land a more solid job. Just some little misc. stuff to the engine and exterior.

chris5115 10-24-2011 04:14 PM

Alright. I appreciate the help. I was looking under the hood today and realized I would have to drop the entire engine out to change the headers so I'm not getting them. Is there anything you guys suggest getting. I was thinking bout getting new coils.

chris5115 12-04-2011 05:43 PM

Hey guys a couple more questions. I got the new Magnaflows on and I am getting a high flow cat put on Tuesday. I was looking at a new intake manifold, higher output fuel injectors, and a new fuel pump. I wouuld have to drop the gas tank for the pump right?

Mike 00LS 12-04-2011 06:33 PM

There was just a thread on it. You don't need to drop the tank - there's an access hatch between the rear seat and the spare tire well.

Here's the thread: >>https://montecarloforum.com/forum/en...el-pump-32507/

chris5115 12-04-2011 07:56 PM

Alright and are the fuel injectors hard to change?

You don't need to get higher flowing fuel injectors if you have an NA L36. The only reason you get higher flowing ones is when your current injectors are maxing out. Otherwise, you're wasting your money, especially considering that anytime you upgrade the injectors you have to get the PCM retuned.

chris5115 12-04-2011 08:40 PM

Oh ok. Thanks man.

Domo01SS 12-11-2011 09:45 PM

Yooo! I wanted to know if anyone knew the EXACT step by step directions to a L36 to L67 top swap? And also a parts list? I have a 01 Monte SS. I'm not a noob at cars, but I don't have any heavy mechanical experience. I plan on top swapping my Monte in the spring time, and I want it done RIGHT with all RIGHT parts. As of right now, my mods are a catback exhaust with u-bend and res delete, colder plugs, 180 degree thermostat, and fenderwell intake. And also, if there is a kit to recommend, which kit would it be? Would it be cheaper to buy a kit, or get all of the parts from a junkyard? How much is a rough estimate on all parts, and how much SHOULD I look at paying a mechanic to do this for me? Let me know, any info would be useful to me.... Thanks in advance... http://forums.motorswap.org/images/s...icon_smile.gif
