2000 Monte Carlo Amp Bypass
If your amp is going bad in your car, take both clips on the am, and cut all the wires. Leave some left if you ever feel like going back to a stock amped system.
These will be hanging and free, tape them so nothing touches Black Purple Thin white Orange Here are the connections you need to make *note this is a 2000, I have no idea on 2001 and up* Also there are 3 tan ones, so take your time and test each one out to make sure its the right one, dont go clamping right away. http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p...354/bypass.jpg I think my stock system sounds louder without the amp and works great. I have no idea on long term effects but for now I love it. |
wow, I thought you were celebrating something, I guess you discovered a good thing with your non-amp now monte carlo?? like you said, what are the long term effects? I guess you will let us know!
|
Anyone know if this will work on an 01'? Buddy of mine crossed a couple of wires when hooking up my subs to the stock radio and fried the stock amp. Let me know please?
|
What the... Well, I've done worse. Glad it worked out for you though.
|
Should work on a 01. I sat in the trunk and messed with them for about an hour and kept chaging the fade an balance to get the right ones.

Edit: It worked! Thank you very much. Months of riding around with no music was horrifying!! |

Thanks. I do believe I'm going to try it today. Wired up some neon's yesterday so that's on the agenda for today.

i posted the oem wire harness schematics - HERE. In case anyone wants to do this.
I work at a stereo shop and I took some leftover wiring harness kits and made an amp bypass plug. https://montecarloforum.com/forum/me...lors-11338.jpg https://montecarloforum.com/forum/me...ness-11339.jpg Also, as you can see, I'm apparently OCD about wires... :wtf: |
That looks very good, I might have to buy one of those from you.

Just use a 9-volt battery to check for a speaker's polarity. When the cone of the speaker is extended "out", you have correct polarity - just mark which one you have + & - on, & you are all set ... make sure all are done this way or you will have some in phase, & some out of phase, & everything will sound muddled.
|
Messed up
I followed the bypas imstructions and got 2 out of 4 speakers working then adjusted the balance to properly check the others and I hurd a very slight crackle coming from the speakers I had hooked up and now I have no sound again. Stereo plays CDs but no sound or chime again. Any tips? Could I have blown something up? Is there a fuse I can check?

You can get an amp by-pass connector from a company called Metra. Plug it in and your good to go.https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/monteca...d65de7b411.jpg
