I have had my 03 Monte for over a year now. Never had a lick of problems with it tell last night! I pull out to pass a granny, and it down shifts like normal, but when it gets to 5,500 RPM it doesn't shift into the next gear! It just kinda spits ans stalls there until I let up then it will go ahead ans shift! the fluid is at at a good level and doesn't seem scorched or anything, it will shift normal when at 3,500 RPM or lower. Do I need to get the fluid changed, or is my problem worse than that? Help!

 

I hate to say it, but I doubt this is something that a simple fluid change will fix.

How many mile do you have on it? Sounds to me like your working on needing a tranny rebuild in the near future.

 

Did you check the fluid? What's your mileage? What type of Monte?

Do you smell rotten eggs? etc.. we are going to need a little more information

 

Also, do you have a system in the car by chance? These tranny's are electronically controlled so if your battery is dieing it could result in bad shifting. Check the battery and the alternator to be sure. But I'm kinda thinking something else is going on here.

 

Its a 2003 SS with 97,XXX miles, i was really hoping i wasn't going to have to rebuild. No rotten egg smell and the level is ok, and no system, but the battery is kinda old. It also kinda bucks even when shifting at lower RPMs.

 

The level is okay, but is the fluid okay?

Should be a nice pink / lighter red. If it's dark red or brown you are in trouble.

 

Hey...Kinda Answers my problem I had A little while back. The car kept what seems like miss shifting or slipping and sometimes sit in neutral. Turned out to be a loose battery connection and then problem solved

 

The fluid is a bright pink, it was only doing to between 1st and 2nd, but this morning it wouldn't shift from 2nd to 3rd it revved out at 4200 RPM and wouldn't shift tell i left off and dropped the RPM's to below 3500. It was driven in town all its life until i got it and ive put 10,000 highway miles on it.

 

GET THE TRANNY looked at man i mean it can be a dum problem check bat but if that is all good take it to the shop ASAP u dont want to run into anymore problems so u should just go take care of it JEFF HOPE ITS JUST THE BAT OR SOMTHING DUM MAN I HATE HAVING TRANNY PROBLEMS MY LAST CAR HAD BAD TRANNY PROBLEMS
