Whipple on an L36?

Default Whipple on an L36?

Is it possible to put a whipple supercharger on an L36?

i've been debating on which way i want to go, supercharge or turbo my car in 2 months, and i've been leaning on turbo, but i still want to be able to take long trips if i want in my car, so i need reliability. im under the impression superchargers are better for daily drivers.

Curiosity got to me, and i'm wondering if i could put a whipple on my L36?
if so, what would i need.
i dont think i could do a conversion kit from zzp, that would only be used for the eaton supercharger.
would i have to do a full top swap? any way around it?

bumpin has a whipple on his l36 so i know its possible. and you would need everything that you need with any other supercharger. do a search

Yes, you need to do a partial 'top swap' using the L67 heads and the L67 LIM- then your adaptor of choice (Animul or Yella Terra) to mount the whipple to that.

Honestly, a turbo kit is far more practical-especially if you're at the basic bolt on level right now. I don't know what other mods you have- but IMO, you really need heads+headers+at least a moderate cam to really need all that extra airflow of a whipple.

Also, due to all the custom stuff associated with doing a Whipple- I'd think you'd be more reliable with either a straight top swap w/ an M90 or a turbo kit.

Lastly, a turbo kit or straight top swap would be a whole lot cheaper.

Actually its on an L67 My compression is close to an L36 just b/c of the pistons I used.

You can still buy the whipple superchargers through whipple themselves. The animul setups go through clubgp's for sale forums every now and then, but the animul adaptors aren't the best to use IMO. I prefer to use the Yella Terra lower adaptor (also has an IC built in)- then you can get a tb adaptor from an animul kit, or from PRJ.

So its still entirely possible to do a whipple build, even though you can't order through WBS anymore.

thanks bumpin', i was just gonna go small turbo, like the z3 setup from zzp. how would a turbo like that perform on a longer trip, like 7 hours of drive time? shouldnt be a problem right?
i just dont want to make my daily driver into a "local only" driver.

Obviously any mods will make a car less reliable than stock. With a turbo kit- you have more flanges, and connections to leak- and make more power, thus abusing the car more.

However, IMO a basic bolt on turbo kit would not drastically effect reliability. I definitely wouldn't be afraid to go on trips with it and such.

If it's tuned properly, without a ton of boost, I don't see it being a problem for long runs.
