Default what to do while tearing down heads...

Ok i will be tearing down my l67 heads to begin porting them.... common sense tells me i need to have an old set of valves in there to protect the seats while i port and need to pull the old valve seals to be sure no metal is left after cleaning.

so far from what i read, the exhaust ports need/ will get the most work. I will gasket match the intake and smooth out the chamber a bit...

i dont want to waste money of course... but if im this deep i might as well get some stuff done...so what should i do while down this deep?

so far here i what i know i need:
-topswap gasket kit
-set of Viton valve seals
-will be port matching the LIM and porting blower as well.

was thinking about SI valves at least for the intake. as i want to be able to rev high.

also was thinking now would be the time to change the springs since its all apart. i am pretty much decided on a GT2 cam for my own reasons at this time. Since i want higher RPM like around 6500-6700 shift points. should i be looking at 90# or 105's? and then will lifters be a good idea? then again i might be able to wain on the lifters until i do the cam...

I can at least answer for your springs, if you are running the GT2 cam with higher shift points you should definitely choose the 105#s.

Are you also porting the TB?

im going to get a north start TB and port the blower so they match. so the TB will be covered :-) thanks for asking.

with the 105's will the stock chain be ok? i dont want to do too much at one time and dont want to waste effort opening things back up again either....

The stock chain is fine with 105's, you normally don't have to worry about the chain until you get 130# springs. I would suggest however, that you make sure that the valve springs that you get are LS6 valve springs. They are MUCH more reliable then the Comp Cam springs.

x2 on the LS6 springs

I think you've got it mostly figured out, there's not much more you can do. New valve seals, maybe some nicer valves, springs, lifters. If the engine isn't in the car though, now is an ideal time to do the cam.

Any chance you can send a link for 90# LS6 valve springs? Thanks, sorry for thread hijacking!
