Default Voltage Booster: Hoax or Mod?

When browsing the performance electronic parts on zzperformance.com I came across a "Voltage Booster" Here is the link: http://www.zzperformance.com/grand_p...=517&catid=107
It claims to give you better stereo sounds, brighter lights, warmer seats, everything that's electronic works faster. But the reviews from people say they feel slight improvement in performance, I'd guess that's from more power to the fuel pump, and slightly smoother shifts. My THREE questions are, does this really work? Is this worth the $18? AND, I know the alternator gets its voltage from the engine, underdrive pulleys reduce alternator output thus giving you 5-15 HP and 5-15 lbs of torque back, since this increases the voltage, will it decrease your HP and Torque?

For only $18 it's worth it if you wanna try it.

Is this worth the $18?
IMO, not really. Its just a single diode soldered into one of the wires; made with male/female alternator plugs for easy install. If you owned a soldering iron, you could do the same for $1 with a part from radioshack and some research.

I will admit, I bought one myself- but I had a slightly different reason; I was doing my L67 swap and my harness had the wrong alt plug (from a police lumina), and I needed a plug to solder on ASAP- and that was the quickest way I could think to get it since I wasn't local to any junkyards.
