Default v-6 to v8

I have a 1987 monte LS with a V-6. I'm going to put a 400 small block in it. Some tell me that it will bolt right in because my 4.3 v6 is just a 350 with two cylinders cut off. Is this true or not? If not what kind of books, literature or help is out there for me?

I am not really 100% sure...

But it is true that the 4.3L is basically a 5.7L with 2 cylinders just chopped off, and Monte's did come with V8's back in 87, so I would imagine it should bolt in.

yes your 4.3 and 400 have the same motor mounts because the 4.3 is still considered a standard small block chevy since it is, in fact, a 350 with two cylinders cut off. therefore it should bolt in place with little or no modifications.

you MIGHT have to relocate the mounts, i'm not sure. you should check this if you use the existing trans or relocate the trans crossmember. did the 4.3 come bolted up to the 200r4? if it did, i would recommend re-using the 200r4 and getting it rebuilt to hold up to the hp and mad torque numbers the 400 puts out.

While swapping in a V8 into a Astro van which is a 4.3,these engine mounts are used to move the engine mounts forward.

I have a spare set that until I finish my project I am not sure I am going to use and that will be awhile yet.I hear the company(all through I haven't had any contact with them for awhile)went out if business.

You could try this link and they published diagrams on how to build the mounts:

www.JTRpublishing.com

I looked at that link and here is the mounts:

http://www.jagsthatrun.com/Pages/Par...V8_Mounts.html

Mine where plasma cut and you can see these are welded.Don't think either one would make much difference.

A dud-I just realized you have a 87 and didn't they come with v8 305's??. If that is the case, just go to a junk yard and grab some mounts.

OK here is a double "A Dud".Got me thinking that a 4.3 1989 car could have had the same mounts with just a different fan shroud. That both V6 and V8 used the same mounts.

So Monty guys, anyone want to confirm this??.Just jump in this thread and save this old rodder's butt. LOL.
