So im going to replace my trans sometime soon i hope lol :p

anyway i wanted to ask if any 4T65E will work or does it have to be from a monte?? i want to get a used one from the junkyard with low miles lol

also while the trans out is there anything i should change/upgrade on it besides the fluid and filter change? thanks

 

Pretty sure you need one from an 03+, either Grand Prix, Impala, Monte, etc.

And you have to make sure it's 3.23 gears.

 

How would I know if it has 3.23 gears?

 

Knowing what it came from and if those cars had 3.23 gears or not lol.

 

I am no expert on transmissions, but shouldn't he have the 4th gear beefed up, HD?... I believe I read something about it on here a while back (can't remember the thread)... If it is out of the car, that would be a good opportunity to do it...... Good luck,

 

well if it came off from an 03 monte 3.8 wouldnt it be the same as mine or could it still have a diff gear ratio?

HD trans are not 3.23 gears

Also the HD parts are not what breaks easily.

The transmission from that 03 should work perfectly.

How much are you spending? Have you looked into a TEP Transmission?

im looking to spend at the most $1000, thats after labor and parts. i have a friend who's going to replace it, he did a great job replacing the one on my yellow LS lol cheap too :p
