Exclamation Top Speed Limited?

I race my 2002 monte carlo ss against my friends 98 corolla all the time and its a shame that his mostly stock car is able to keep up behind me everytime me and him both have the same magnaflow performance exhaust and NGK spark splugs he has a stock engine and the only difference in performance change we have is that my resonator has been removed and i have the largest Sprectre intake known to man.lol of course since his car is 90's i figure the ecu's are diff back then and his car has 130MPH posted and he is able to go beyond that but my 2002 monte carlo ss 3.8 has 140 posted but it tops out at 125 no matter how hard i floor it, why is this happening if it shows that i clearly should be able to go at least 140 if not over??

Are you on a track?

Also yes, these cars do have a limiter. The factory speed ratings of the factory tires.

this is really commonly asked on here

we have governors which limits the speed, i'd by surprised if you can even get to 125 to be honest

For safety reasons make sure your tires speed ratings match up with what you want to do.

And you will need to get your PCM programmed to delete the restriction.

But honestly, if you want speed you should start modifying before you even think of a PCM change.

Limiter only allows you to go to ~110

With 5th gens that's true (somewhere around 107mph), but with 6th gens it might be limited to 117 or something like that. I know 6th gens have a higher limiter, i'm just not sure how much exactly.

Also, who cares about top speed anyways, especially on an SS that's almost stock. Go for some engine parts that actually increase hp and not a junk Jet Performance thing like Chibi said. There's a thread stickied at the top of this section (Engine & Transmission) that has a pretty good explanation formodding a 3800.

If for some odd reason you only want to barely beat your friends car, just get a PCM from ZZP at ZZPerformance.

i thought on the 5th gens it just started cutting fuel at 107 and then just stopped at 115?
