Default supercharger requirements

I own a 2000 monte carlo ss non-supercharged. I am about to buy a factory supercharger that fits my monte. All I am getting is the supercharger but is there anything else i will need? like a specific intake or anything?

You will need a lot more than just the supercharger. Take a look at the parts list on this page. It will give you a general idea of everything that you need. It is a lot more involved than just bolting on the supercharger.

The other option is going with ZZP's SSM90 kit, but this one gets pretty expensive. I'd recomend searching for the term "top swap" and read up as much as you can.

This has been covered about 9 million times on this site and about 300 million times on the internet. Not trying to be a jerk...but use the Search function! Do some research! If you have SPECIFIC questions after doing some research, post them and we'll be happy to help!

x2- what you need to use as your search term is "top swap" and you'll get more info than you'll need to get the job done. Just a heads up- the supercharger is only a very small part of all the stuff you'll need.

Yes. You need the whole top end of the supercharged engine, from the heads up, as well as the crank pulley and idler pulley from a s/c engine. This includes heads, lower intake manifold, injectors, fuel rails, and the other parts listed there.

You don't necessarily need to buy brand new ones though.

Full top swaps can often be found used for $500 or less.

Check the grand prix and regal forums classified sections. Those cars started getting the supercharged engines in '97, so they had a quite longer run with that engine and there are many more supercharged gp's/regals out there than montes.

-Riggs.

well, i searched for top swaps on a grand prix forum, and the prices were even less than i had expected.....

one for $250 here....

one for $500 here...

one for $280 here...

thanks. I found a supercharger that fits my monte and its just the supercharger and pulley. so I will need to purchase everything else. so fuel mods is a big thing here? My senior project is coming up soon so i figured it would be good for it and the advice here is very helpfull. So a top swap is basically everything I need?

top swap, tools, and about 6-8 hours of work roughly.

i chose the SS m90 kit route since im not that mechanically inclined. would make a great project though.

i think if my car wasnt my daily driver, i'd do my own work. i'd be able to take my time with it.

lol, yes- did you search for top swap and read up on it? If you bolt your supercharger and it's lower intake manifold to your current heads, you aren't going to have any holes for the fuel injectors to go into.

so fuel mods is a big thing here?
What are you asking here? If you mean this because there are fuel system parts listed on a top swap parts list, its because the fuel injectors are in a different location on a supercharged 3800.

So a top swap is basically everything I need?
I mentioned 'top swap' just because that is the key phrase that will bring up all the topics in the search. Just buying a "top swap" from someone off forums is risky unless you know EXACTLY what parts you need first; I've seen them in all kinds of completeness. You'd hate to get into it and realize you're missing a critical link. Thats why I reccomend you read everything you can about this by searching on here before you jump in and buy anything- make a list of all the parts you need- and then when you come across 'top swap for sale' threads, you can verify that you'll have all you need.

You should really do the search as suggested by some of the other members. You'll find all the info and then some! in fact, there's someone else asking about the top swap who found one from ed morad, a salvage yard, who sells them and all the parts you'll need for the install.
