Default Supercharger

Ok so today I went to a junkyard and was looking for an oil cap for my 03 MC SS. The one I have says 5W-30. So I pop the hood on a Grand Prix and guess what no oil cap. Then my friend goes look at that. So I look and come to find out its a GTP model with the supercharger staring us in the face. To stop from putting you all to sleep. I ended up buying it for $150. Just the Super Charger. Now my question is what will I have to do to my engine to be able to put it on?

First off, your sig is way too big-800x600 is almost my whole screen.

Secondly, you are going to need a lot more parts to put that supercharger on your car, and it is a lot more involved than just dropping it on. You are going to need things like:

L67 heads
L67 lower intake manifold
L67 throttle body
L67 fuel rails
L67 crank balancer (has two belt groove sets)
L67 s/c idler and tensioner pulley sets (entire coil pack bracket I believe)
pcm tune to work with the new stuff
L67 2 bar MAP
L67 fuel injectors

Basically, you end up tearing the engine down to the short block, and then putting on the L67 top end. ZZP does make an 'SS kit' that doesn't make you change heads or the crank pulley- but it is a good deal more expensive.

You could always contact ZZPerformance for their top end swap kit.

IMHO, buy the whole engine, tranny, and axles from the GTP, and rebuild.

First off I changed my sig just for you.

Second Money and time is not an issue for finishing my car. I know there is a lot of work that has to be done, that is why I asked you guys for help. And what I got was greatly appreciated.

The hd tranny isn't particularly necessary- the only difference in strength is the differential and that is pretty non-issue, there are a lot of people who run a regular 4t65 on a top swap L36. Not to mention, if he keeps his current trans, he will have a steeper gear and be a bit quicker.

You could always contact ZZPerformance for their top end swap kit.
There are 2 main problems with that. First is the price:

$210 for the install kit
$275 for the LIM (or $175 + a LIM you get)
$455 for the fuel logs
$575 for the blower (or $175 + a blower you get)
$120 for the MPS
-
$1635 (or $1135 + an LIM and gen 3 M90)

A complete top swap is a good bit more difficult to install, but easily under $1000, I've seen people pull it off for $600 even.

The other bad thing about the zzp kit, is you are pretty limited to pulley sizes- you can't get any small pullies. Its a great option for someone who wants a minimal labor install, but its pricey as heck.

Another question I have is is it necessary to get an intercooler. I know it is recommended but do I absolutely need one?

All you need are the parts above, give or takea couple. An intercooler is far from a necessity. A few minor bolt ons wouldn't hurt to keep the KR down due to your higher compression, but an intercooler is a pretty high up mod for the L67's (unlike on turbo cars).

I would get a scanner right away to check for KR. Intercooler not necessary but would be a VERY nice add on.
