..Welcome to the MCF...
Keep checking back & hopefully one of our talented member's can assist, or suggest a faster way... The book just gives an estimate on repair times, but it also depends on your knowledge + having all the tools /parts needed...+ it helps to have a friend assist. I've learned it pays 2 do it right the first time, and avoid shortcuts...Hope you have a good garage/lift/jack/and safety stands... Remove the battery cables, follow the positve cable down to the starter. Remove the cables from the starter. Then remove the bolts and the starter. Good Luck |
Dropping the cross member is not required to install a starter on my 98 z34. But be warned, you must have very good jackstands so you can get under there and manuever the starter out/in. This really inst to hard of a job if you have a good set of gearwrenches/sockets and basic mechanical knowledge. there was some stuff to be removed, heat shield, dust covers, wiring, but not the cross member.
In short, dropping the crossmember makes dropping the starter easier, but is not neccesary. |
