I've been reading some threads and I think I saw some people recommend upgrading the transmission on 6th gen. after a set amount of HP gains (from mods) I think it was somewhere around 300hp. I wanted to know if there is a similar hp cap for the stock 06-07 transmissions?

 

I think this is something that only time will tell...

What engine do you have in your Monte Carlo? is it the 5.3?

 

I want to know about the 5.3 L ss. I was surpised I couldn't find alot of information on it. Any ideas?

 

simple bolt ons wont hurt it to much. the trannys are basically already maxxed out. the max horse power is somewhere near 300 with torque at something like 350. the bolt ons will put it to that point. if you do a shift kit it wont last that long guarenteed. i beleive that it is the 2nd gear and the input shaft that are the weak links in it.

 

The SS is 303hp stock, do you mean the typical mods will put it to 350? I figure that won't be pushing it. But the reason I want to know is because I'm wondering if it could handle a turbo. How would the tranny work at over 400hp?

IMO if you're racing it with a 5.3 + a turbo, you're going to be overkill for the stock trans. I don't see why you couldn't upgrade it though- its just a 4t65hd- why can't you use the same upgrade parts the L67 guys can?
