Default Performance Chips vs. Tuners

Advice? I see the things on ebay all the time for major horsepower and mileage gains. But at 20-something bucks it sounds fishy. Just wondering. Thanks guys.

The "can" tuners like the hypertech 3 and such won't really do much for your car. I have the Hypertech 3 and I don't see any gains at all. One that gives U much more control is the one from HP tuners but it costs 1/2 a month's paycheck, for some of us! You can even adjust your trans shift points, or remove the rev limiter's restriction in the PCM. It costs $650.00 macaroons, but very, very nice to have.

P.S.: You'll need to study the manual and ask a loit of questions to be able to use it, but it's worth it.

Dont' buy a chip, i've had bad experience with the whole chip thing, the Jet Modeule fried my ECM.

I've heard that HP tuners are the best route for custom tunes.

I know you can buy the programmers for the 5.3L V8, but the HP tune is the best from what i've been told.

Alright. Chips are out then. Haha. I saw this one on ebay that advertised it as a 300 horsepower gain and like 75 MPG and I was like no way. Figured I'd ask. I planned on getting a Diablosport Tuner and using that. That won't be until spring though. My Aunt told me if I buy the fuel pump for the old Cavalier she has I can have it so that comes first. Which is cool cause I'd rather not have my Monte face the winter. Thanks again guys.

Those $20 "chips" are lies. A lot of the "performance chips" on ebay are spliced into your IAT sensor, making it read lower intake temperatures. If you want a REAL tune, buy an HP Tuner, find someone that sells tuned PCM's, or find somebody that can tune your PCM.

I rather stay home than drive my Monte in the snow or ice! Besides, I can't walk in the snow/ice either, lol.

X2 on what nitehawkjcb said. Stay away from the 300 hp chips from ebay, save your money and buy the HP tuner. Once you learn how to use your car will be tuned to perfection as you keep adding mods and power adders! You'll love it.

Haha. I just looked again and found one for 750hp. Same price as the 350hp. Definitely fishy.
