Dont waste your money on either of those. If you want your car tuned, you should look into either HP tuners or find a used DHP tuner for sale.

X2

The best place to find a DHP powertuner or HPtuners would be in the classifieds section at clubgp.

If you don't know what you are expecting to see with them, then you need to do A LOT of tuning research first. It's not for the unexperienced.

hptuners.com and start reading.

The bully dog one is not a tuner as far as I can tell- its just a basic scan tool that displays engine parameters.

For the Jet one- it says it does a tune- but is it adjustable, and what parameters can you even adjust? It sounds like its just a display unit like the bully dog, but can also flash a preset tune.

Looked on the HPTuners website:

97-05 Chevrolet Monte Carlo 3.1, 3.4, 3.8
But also look at this other listing:

00-05 Chevrolet Impala 3.4, 3.8
I'm wondering if the "3.4" they mention under the monte column is the 3400 SFI, not the 3.4 dohc which the OP has. Plus, they don't even list 96 as being supported in the montes.

As for the DHP PT- I've never used them on anything but 3800's, not sure what all is supported and such.

They wouldn't work on his car because they use the OBD-II Plug don't they? Which he doesn't have.

96 was the first year for mandated obd2, my 96 LS has obd2, I'd imagine the Z was the same.

Yes, all 5th gen Montes are OBD II except for 1995. HPTuners or a Powertuner should work fine on his car.
