Angry Now my SS is running like a 4 cylinder---great!

Coming home tonight, my ss starts running like Hyundai.

No power at take off, have to feather gas when it shifts. Runs like a 4 cylinder.

I read most of the posts on here and dont know WHERE to begin

Car has 105K / just ran 6 bottles of Lucas fuel cleaner in 6 tanks of Chevron super. tranny level fine/, no overheating/new air filter / recent oil change /

No codes either / no blown fuses

so i looked at coil and plug contacts.....no corrosion

looks like original coil packs plugs and wires

cant tell if fuel or spark related / havent checked any sensors yet too dark out

guess I will throw parts at it....ac plugs , wires and coils..sensors?

man what a way to spoil the fun of a new car

help

I'd be positive it's a clogged cat - you can have it pressure tested to verify. One question, Chevron Super? Is that premium fuel?

What octane do you normally run? 87 or 91+?

ok before you do a cat/ let me ask real quick when was the last time you did a tune up and replaced the air filter? i would do that first then get a tem guage and see how hot the cat gets when you drive it. what i mean is get a base temp when you first start it and let it warm up then after you drive it if it is really out there in temp it is it. but i would go with a tune up or when was the last time you did one?

92 octane - premium

just bought - no tune up yet...was running decent but doggy looks to be original plugs wires and coil

just got air filter when oil changed

looked under there after idling at temp for a while and cat (looks original )---isnt glowing / doesnt feel like much pressure coming out tail pipe tho ...found the lovely engineered u bend--nice

Ok, first mistake. Your car can't take premium if you don't tune your spark tables for it. Easiest way to plug a cat.

I'd still have the cat pressure tested, that's easy and if it comes back that the cat is fine, you can rule it out and get a tuneup. Of course at 105k miles, a tuneup is definitely due.

strange...most people on here use high octane

link-------------- https://montecarloforum.com/forum/ge...e-25531/page2/

thats why I used it...only 6 tanks would clog it?

105 k miles

The supercharged models need it as well as people who are tuned for it. I run 87 right now.

Don't know where I got 140k miles - but still 105k, still time for a tuneup.

6 tanks wouldn't clog it, no, but it doesn't help it either if that makes sense. Running premium sends unburnt fuel through the system, including the cat, plus your EGR circulates it back in...dirtying that valve and other parts as it goes through. I'd go to 87 grade (Chevron is a Top Tier Gas - so it's a higher detergent gas anyways, so you won't get any advantages from running the premium anyways).

I think I am gonna try and limp into the muffler shop on the way to work in the morning...hope she makes it

let them check it and see

gonna try out the chevron 87 as well.

Might as well get the u bend delete done at same time if cat is bad
