need help an info on pully size thanks

Default need help an info on pully size thanks

i have a 05 monte carlo ss sc40,000 mil. im getting flowmasterr 40's, high flow ctalytic converter, replaces u-bend and says 47% increase of flow an up to 8hp. i wanted to to get a smaller pully for more hp but dont no how low i can go with this set up without hurting anything. Also i was gonna get a hypertech 32002 energy programer. YOUR HELP IS VERY USEFULL THANKS!!!

Definitely no on the smaller pulley. Your only mods being a CAI and ubend delete- I bet you still have a little knock on your current pulley.

Personally, I wouldn't waste the money on a hypertech tuner- I'd save for a DHP or HPtuner programmer- you get way more adjustability with them.

Definately don't get a smaller pulley with such little mods. You definately need to scan before changing the blower pulley. Bumpin is right, save up and get one of the tuners he mentioned.

Personally, I have an Aeroforce scan gauge that monitors any KR that I may get, so I can lay off the throttle if I see any.

I am in the same boat i wanna dosomething like thatand im gona get a cold air intake soon and zz performance says u need a colder tstat and plugs and i was wondering what would begood plugs and tstatand a downpie will be later with money but i was wondering what will going from a 3.5 to 3.4 pulley do more torque or hpand if i do all these things to cool my engine down do i still need to check for a knock and could i get a shop to do that

Autolite copper 104s should work nicely, same with the one's one step warmer (605s?). As for a tstat, a 180- drilled or not, seems to be the best compromised between a cooler engine and still having heat in the winter.

what will going from a 3.5 to 3.4 pulley do more torque or hp
A 3.5 to 3.4 = more boost, which means more hp and torque. However, that tiny mod list will probably struggle to run a 3.5" knock free. If you go too small of a pulley, and get knock- the pcm will pull timing like crazy and you'll end up slower.

Of course you still need to check for knock. Any time you mess with swapping pulleys, you need to check for knock- that is the core of L67 modding. You could geta shop to do it, but they will rape you. You can get a scan gauge for like $200 that mounts in the car, and monitor knock all the time- I bet a shop will easily charge you that just for one session out scanning WOT passes.

I was thinking the same lines. Get a knock gauge/scanner. Learning to program with DHP and HPTuners is a long process... looking at 40+ hours.

Depending on your income it might be smarter to either pay a shop or find someone on the board in your state with a tuner, drive there and give them a couple bucks to tune it for you. I'm sure if you asked someone and gave them a hundred bucks they would spend a couple hours tuning it for you.
