motor and trans will be done today !! All the rest of the wiring and all the little pieces will be done tomorrow morning and I should be driving it home tomorrow if everything goes as planed = )

does any one have any tips they would like to share about breaking in a 3800 ?

 

Slow and steady for the first 500 miles.

I like to do an oil change super early on a break-in. Perhaps after that 500 miles throw some new oil through it.

 

cool thanks man I know I do one at 20 mi ( hard or high rpm break in ) and then another at 500 and it says don't go 1 set speed fast or slow for the first 500 mi
any other tips I am thinking about cleaning the Injectors on it just to make sure i have gotten everything at the best I can

Are you sure the passenger compartment is big enough to contain the smile that will be on your face?

I don't know why a 3800 would be any different than any other engine. After the engine has come up to operating temp accelerate (moderately) then let off the gas all the way and let the car slow down on engine compression. You don't want to put your foot through the floor, but you don't want to ***** foot it either. Do this several times running the car up to a different speed each time. This forces the rings outward into the cylinder walls and aids in seating the rings. The one thing you do not want to do is drive at a steady speed for an extended period of time. If you do, the oil can create a glaze on the cylinder walls and the rings may not seat properly. With the materials they use in piston rings nowdays about 50 miles should be good to break the rings in. After that you can drive the car as you normally do. Just personal preference, but I would change the oil around 300 miles. By that time the rings, cam, lifters, etc should have established a wear pattern and shouldn't deposit much material into the oil.
