Actually, its the opposite- the stock ones are soft rubber (the square ones even have large holes in them to allow for a lot of engine movement).

When you do aftermarket mounts, they're both solid and made of a much stiffer plastic- so more engine vibration is translated to the car.

I never could figure out why people said they were so terrible- I have both mounts on my monte (its even cam'd) and other than when it would almost die at idle- it really didn't feel all that worse than rotated stock mounts.

i noticed much less engine movement when the car downshifts or under heavy acceleration suddenly. after the supercharger, i noticed that when i would get off the gas from 75% throttle, the engine would throw itself forward....now i havent noticed any movement.

a more sporty feel- and a more responsive setup

Take a look on youtube and such for various L67 vehicles on the dyno- you'll see the engine moves around a ton when you floor it / let off. Changing the mounts to more solid ones limits the movement.

Its the same idea with replacing rubber bushings in the car's suspension with stiffer ones (all the way up to using solid heim joints on full on race cars)- the soft rubber was chosen at the factory to give a soft ride, and smooth driving car (NVH)- but it does have a somewhat detrimental effect on performance.

Maybe I just read the whole thread wrong!

So with your stock mounts, you felt a lot of engine movement and that takes it's coarse and ruins your power to the wheels? And then you upgraded your mounts and you know longer have THAT power robbing movement, but you have a vibration during idle and nothing else while driving, meaning more power going to the wheels?

i wouldnt neccessarily say more power to the wheels, but less engine/drivetrain movement will keep the geometry of everything aligned, so i guess the right word would be efficent. it keeps the engine more effecient, while also adding a more sporty feel like bumpin said. also, less engine movement under power also means less of a change to screw something up, like breaking a lower engine mount. just keeps the engine from rocking back and forth under acceleration. im happy with them.

Okay, after you said you installed them you said it was nice to feel the vibration, so I got confused

Thanks for clearing it up.

hmmm i dunno, the 97 z28 only came with 285 HP stock, and that would mean roughly 250 to the wheels. and they weigh about 200 lbs more than my monte.
it would be a close race!
