Motor is messed up

Ok so I think my friend just messed his motor up bad

2001 ss 3.6 v6 auto

He had a water leak engine got hot oil was boiling and he had to add some oil he was really low so he added 5 quits of motor oil will it was hot like a idiot . When he starts to drive the car it is shaking so bad I think he bent something and messed the motor up really bad. He has not started since we went home and we are trying to find out whats wrong with it. I think his cam or piston is bent what do you all think..

Please help

Pull that motor out and find a used long block to throw in there. I wouldnt even spend the time to tear the old one apart. There are so many things that could potentially be wrong. The bottom end could be bad from running it without oil, he could have hydrolocked the motor by overheating it and blowing a head gasket/intake gasket, he could have rounded a lobe off the cam from running it without oil, ect. For a few hundred bucks you could easily find a used long block and swap the motor out in a weekend.

What all would it take to get a v8 from around the same year and drop it in and how much do you think the parts would be?

There was a thread on potential V8 swap into the 6th gen, but I believe the gist of it was, if even possible, needing the whole cradle, possibly suspension in front, the wiring was a biggie, IIRC?! Please do a search, you will then be able to see what was said, I don't remember enough about it, other than I would love to sink a V8 into mine!!

There is a write up in the how to section about it I believe. Its far from a "drop in" job.

Thanks Matt, for the clarfication, I couldn't remember what section it was in either! I just remembered reading it, and from what was said, not impossible, but well out of the means of just a drop in procedure!!! Intrigueing idea none-the-less, no?!

Member Dredd put the LS4 engine in his 2001 SS. Here's his thread on it; https://montecarloforum.com/forum/si...per-ls4-26283/

Fist the '00-'05 Montes never had a v8 to my knowledge. So I'm sure the swap is a BIG undertaking. Looking at the thread mogwog posted, it apparently will fit and can be done.
Second, I do agree, when the car was ran on that low a level of oil to the point it is believed the oil was boiling, consider the engine toast. If the oil was boiling all the metal, bearings, gaskets and seals where heated beyond their acceptable thresholds and probably suffered a LOT of friction abuse due to lack of oil.

3.6 you say.... ha

If it was 5 qts low on oil, that motor is finished. These cars only hold 4.5-5 quarts.
