Default mobil clean 5000

has anyone used this oil before and soes it really last for
5000 miles/6 months? ive always went to texas ten min place to get it changed and always have used conventional oil. i didnt want to do full synthetic cause i heard once you switch you can go back, and that stuff is expensive. also i bought 6 quarts, does a 3.5 take 5 or 6???

i really wouldnt run that long on the same oil, even if they say it will last that long. its so cheap to change your oil why risk anything happening. **** ive changed mine every 2000 miles on mine. and i change mine right after i take it out of storage for the winter regradless how many miles/months are on the oil.

I run Royal Purple Synthetic with a Mobil 1 filter myself.... I believe most any modern oil can go 5,000 miles... they don't break down like they did 50 years ago when they came up with the whole 3 months/3000 miles thing. I'd trust that oil for 5,000 miles... never heard anything bad about it!!!

The Mobil Clean 5000 is great oil if you are looking for conventional oil! Personally I always use Mobil 1, but if I were to use conventional oil, i'd use Mobil 5000!

The 3.5L/ 3.9L only take 4 quarts with a filter change, yes, I know only 4 quarts, but thats what it takes.

thanks for the advice. i usually change every 2500 but im almost at 3000 this time. like i said i usually get crap oil at a quick change place, but ive decided its cheaper and i can get better oil by doing it myself. does anyone know if its 5 or 6 quarts??? im going to do it on tuesday so i can change it indoors.

mamonte since you have the same engine do you notice a difference in power, or smoother idling? ive heard that full synthetic reduces mpg's, and just dont see the point unless it lasts longer.

i.e.
mobil clean 5000 - 2.50/quart
royal purple - 6.80/quart

Reduces MPG's!!!!???? Whoever told you that is full of it. If anything, synthetics will INCREASE your MPG's. In all honesty, you probably will never notice a difference in MPG's though.

I SWEAR by synthetics, and would NEVER use anything else in my car, or any other car in my household. I am a Mobil 1 user, and you can get 5 quart jugs of it at Wal-Mart for $22.00, that comes out to $4.40 per quart. And when using a synthetic, you can EASILY stretch drain intervals between 6,000-8,000 miles depending on your driving style. I generally go for 7,500 mile change intervals on synthetics, and in the Monte I just go by the oil life monitor, which usually puts me at around 8,000 mile intervals.

On top of everything i've already said, synthetics are WAY cleaner, and will leave your engine clean for a LONG LONG time, with no sludge, or oil deposits.

And just to clarify, it is NOT 5 or 6 quarts, its ONLY 4 quarts, trust me, i've been changing my oil in my Monte for the last 98,000 miles.

correct mike, only 4 quarts for the 3.5L, says so in your owner's manual. that's always the first place i look.

as far as driving, smoothness, better mpg, you can't really feel or see a difference. the only real noticeable difference i see is in cold weather starting/warming up. the engine turns over much easier and warms up faster in these MN winters that can see -40F or even worse. i think if you get a synthetic that meets the GM standards (it will say it on the back of the bottle), you will be just fine.

i've used penzoil platinum for a quite a while now, but it's creeping up in price every time i change oil. i've noticed quaker state q horsepower stays around $18-$20 for 5 qts at walmart. i'm gonna try that out next.

Drew, the Quakerstate and the Pennzoil are the same oil, made by the same company. So if you're wanting to stick with the Pennzoil brand, then either Quakerstate, or Pennzoil, whatever is cheaper will be the same!

great thanks! seems like that is the case for oil, batteries, etc these days. only a few manufacturers but dozens of brand names.
