I just checked Mobil's web site and indeed Mobil 1 5-30 does comply with GM4718M specs, maybe they have changed the labeling on newer or 5 qt. bottles or does GM have a new/superseded spec #?
check their site for more info
here's the link

hope this helps

Ouch, $10/quart? That is rough.

I hate to promote walmart in any way, shape, or form but the prices Wayne posted in the original post are probably the national standard (or at least they are the same in PA as the prices he listed which I assume is in MI). So, it's $26 for a 5-quart jug of Mobil 1, and $21 for valvoline synthetic, and $18 for Quaker State Synthetic. All of the other oils (both synthetic and conventional) are really cheap there in the 5-quart jugs. Oh, and ACDelco filters are about $4 there too.

I've always sworn by Mobil 1, been using it for years and never had an oil related failure of any kind, if you change over to it early in the life of the engine, it'll be even less prone to oil leaks, but if you change over later in the engines life it can tend to find leaks and exaggerate them (I guess that would be true of any synthetic). It also has much higher thermal resistance than standard oils and many synthetics so it wont "coke up" in the oil supply lines of a turbo. If it's good enough for Formula 1 engines (800+ BHP at 18,000 RPM) it'll do for our engine just fine. Costco usually has a pretty good price on 6 packs. just my 2 cents

MAKE SURE YOU USE ONLY THE GM4718M APPROVED OIL IN YOUR L67!!!!!!!!
Full Synthetic ONLY in yout S/c engine, but not all synthetics are approved. 1st. look at the jug (5 qt jugs available at WalMart). The last jug of Mobil 1 5w-30 didn't have the GM4718M rating.

These are the current APPROVED products:
Product Name SAE Viscosity Grades
76 Super Synthetic Motor Oil 5W-30, 10W-30
AC Delco Full Synthetic 5W-30
Castrol SLX Professional 4718 5W-30
Chevron Supreme Synthetic 5W-30, 10W-30
CITGO SUPERGARD Synthetic 5W-30, 10W-30
Kendall GT-1 Ultimate Synthetic Motor Oil 5W-30, 10W-30
Mobil 1 0W-30, 5W-30, 10W-30
Northland, Synergy Synthetic 5W-30
Pennzoil Platinum Full Synthetic 5W-30, 10W-30
Q HorsePower 5W-30, 10W-30
Texaco Havoline Synthetic 5W-30, 10W-30

Here's GM's current list:

Hear that Amy? Your '05 takes different oil than your red car.

Default Mobil 1 5-30

I know this is a little late for this thread but Costco has a coupon for $10.00 off per case of Mobil 1 5-30 or 10-30 with a limit of 3 cases, came out to $23.00 a case i think
coupon was good 10/16/09 thru 11/1/09, pick up a couple for the next few changes

The L67 does not REQUIRE synthetic motor oil...but I HIGHLY recommend synthetics in ANY car.
