The only thing unplugging the MAF will do is cause the PCM to operate in open loop mode. Since open loop mode also querries the MAF (and it is unplugged) the lack of signal from it will force the PCM to load default tables for the AFR. Because of this the engine may seem to run a little better, but that does not mean that the MAF is bad. Besides, how is unplugging the MAF going to detect bad wiring if that's what is causing the problem?

 

So considering the results i got, it my MAF bad?

 

Since he did say he cleaned the MAF and shortly after the issue returned...
Would be a quick test to either qualify...or..Eliminate the MAF as the problem...

As far as a bad wire fix?.. The MAF test wont fix a wireing issue..
Thats why I also mentioned he may have a whole other issue...

I wasnt (didnt) go into the open loop explanation...Just trying to Disqualify or Qualify a Bad/Good MAF.

 

So do you think my mass air flow sensor is bad seeing the readings i got when i tested the MAF signal?

 

Did you try un plugging the MAF? and do a test drive?
Did it resolve your issue?

 

With the reading you got on the 'A' circuit I would check that wire (from the connector back to the power distribution center) for breaks, cracks or abrasion. Pay particular attention to tight bends and where the harness runs close to the body/frame. If the wire checks out okay then replace the sensor.

 

Ok will do. And I am doing the test drive tomorrow morning with the MAF unplugged

 

Correction: I meant to say check the wire from the connector to the PCM, not the power distribution center. I was thinking about the power circuit when I typed that...

 

Replaced the MAF yesterday and turns out the MAF actually was bad. Issue I had before is gone and the OBD code is also gone
