i can assure you this will be nothing like installing the k&n intake kit. you will also need a torque wrench and other parts to do the job right. if you don't think you can do it then if i were you i wouldnt even try because you're just asking for trouble. just how i feel about it though
I probably couldn't do it by myself, but if I had alot of time to do it, maybe. Im just really nervous about how much my local shop might charge me to do it. D:

I would be worried about digging myself in a hole, which seems to be a similar worry of yours, at the very least, read up a LOT before you start to dig in and good luck if you do decide to do it.
So with the top swap from Morad, and the gasket kit from ZZP, I should be set to do the install? And that is to bad, that there is no step by step guide, kindof like the one provided by K&N to install their CAI. That guide was AMAZING.
I'm just surprised with all the people who have done top swaps that there isn't at least some basic step by step with pics. The bad thing is, its a pretty mechanically involved swap (ie not just changing oil, etc)- so it seems like the people who undertake it usually have a pretty good handle on mechanics, and don't need a guide. However, I think if someone were to do a nice step by step with pictures as they went, that more people would be able to do them since there wouldn't be any mystery to it.
In my opinion you should check around the local car clubs and let them know what your trying to have done. Ask for recommendations as to where you might find a reasonably priced shop that they trust for this task. let them know your on a budget as most of us are and then visit the shop and get a quote. Might be better to spend more time at work making money than doing something like this yourself, and having issues as others mention is probable. And if you lost your motor plus all the parts you just bought...OUCH
It would not hurt to ask around!!! save money on parts and put the savings towards paying a shop to do it. If you do this yourself...DONT RUSH and keep everything really organized and clean working areas. I know of a couple places I could call. One of them is actually in the next town over, and his husband is my sisters teacher. Small world, isn't it?
I WANT to do the swap on my own just to have gained the knowledge of my engine with the trial and error. But then again, I want a shop to do it so it's done right. I'm just afraid that a shop will try to rush through it to get it through and get their money.

why not sell your car and use the cash for the top swap to pick up a gtp, 04/05 ss, or regal gs with the l67 in it already
couldnt you use a chilton manual or similar for an l67 car head gasket replacement walk through? i would assume that it would be pretty informative and to do a head gasket swap you have to have the top end of the motor off so it should be pretty close to what you need?
