Unhappy issues...

hey, all.
my 97 monte ls 3.1 v6 has been great so far, but i think it might be ill. i had made a post a while ago about how there is a dead- spot under acceleration, and now that i have been driving it more it seems to have gotten worse. it only does it once its warmed up, but its just dead between 5-20 mph and 30-45 mph. i wach the tach, it does not budge above 2500 rpm untill i pin the throttle at wot, then the car downshifts. i hold it to 4000-5000 rpm, let up, it shifts into drive and im fine. why would my car act like this? could it be a sensor in the trans?

now i have a new problem: the car is starting to idle funny once warmed up. it does not stay constant, it kinda idles from below 1000 rpm ( 950 ish) to maby 1100 ish rpm. just enuff to notice it, but only if you are looking for it. trying to start from a dead-stop ( like a red light) causes the rpm's to dip way down, and the car almost stalls. almost. but then, with a big shudder, it gets moving, and is fine other than that dead- spot.

the car has a newer engine that should not have these problems, fresh plugs, fuel filter, air filter, a new TPS, fresh oil & filter. the car and trans have 153,000 miles on them to the best of my knowlage, the engine has less, but im not sure how many less. ( all the old stuff i removed for the tune up on the engine were still new)

any help is appreciated, thanks!

Hi `Ryan, I've searched & searched all my web resources 4 a same & similar problem, but could not find I'm puzzled <~ok, all the time
Has your dad looked @ it ? It is difficult to diagnosis just by the written word, and not having the test equipment to pinpoint the possible problem.
Wish U good luck in resolving your issues with your Monte.

Really, what does a alien know about human cars ? What ? Lol

Hopefully one of our expert memebers with have a solution/suggestion for U.

Have you checked your EGR Valve? I know that it can cause an surge when warming up. Mine does it and i know its bad. but i am living with it till i can buy it. Now you might to see if maybe you IAC valve is also bad.

Just a thought.

just thought of something. Your "FLAT" spots could also be one of your coil packs also.

all those new filters and plugs and you didn't get new wires?

I'd finish your new with a new set of coil packs and a set of wires. Shouldn't run you too much. See where that nets you, and hope the problem gets fixed

thanks for the help, guys. chris, i dont have a check engine light on, but i am getting a "service engine soon" light. i am gonna bring the monte up to autozone to have them hook it to a scanner today, hopefully that can shed some light on whats wrong, i'll let you guys know what it says. i guess while i am up there i will see what a new coil pack is gonna run me, along with the EGR valve and the IAC valve, and ill probibly get new wires, though like i said the wires and the old plugs i removed were like brand new, i have the old plugs in the trunk as extras.

thanks again, everyone!

I didn't see where you said the wires looked new...

but if the stuff is cheap and easy to replace why not peace of mind is good to have.
