Of course you could...anything is possible. It's just a matter of how much time and money you want to put into it. You're looking at probably 3k in installation if you have it done, plus the cost of the block. Not too mention, the bigger the engine the faster you'll kill your transmission if you don't upgrade it to a HD version.

The 5.3 you'll need to upgrade quite a bit to make it work.

I agree with 03JGMonte! The sc engine will be a plug and play, and the transmission won't have to be totally upgraded with hardened parts. You'll still need the PCM/cable harness and the right side axle/differential cover from the donor car. If you're doing the rebuild it isn't that expensive. But if you're having a shop do the work, expect to pay at the very least $2800-3500 for the work. These cars are easy to work with engine wise but their transmissions can be a bit of a pain, specially if you're going to upgrade to hardened trans parts like the input shaft or a better 2nd clutch pack which requires more plates. If you're going to have the transmission rebuild, not a bad idea if yours is showing signs/symptoms of wear, besides changing the usual seals/clutches/gaskets/etc..., get a hardened output shaft and the kit from transgo that's use for heavy duty 4t65e. That kit will increase the oil pressure and minimize clutch wear. Another would be a hardened input shaft but they are expensive. GL!

I would go with the L67 swap personally, because it is by far the best bang for your buck. If you could get your hands on a cheap L32 that would be even better, but L67 seems the way to go. You may want to do the HD upgrade on your trans or rebuild/swap it out completely but personally I feel that you would be able to put that off for a while if you needed time to save up the money. It all just depends how much you beat on it and whether or not you launch it constantly.

Unless you are swapping the trans and motor I wouldn't do a L67 swap. There are differences between the trans in an 01 Monte compared to a 04-05 Monte. The reason this is an issue is when it comes to a file for the PCM. Because there is no L67 file that has 01 trans settings in it you will have trouble. It is the same issue people with top swaps run into. Like me. lol

That's part of the reason that when I get my built trans I will be getting the valve body that matches the 04-05 trans so I can run a L67 file instead of trying to tune a L36 file and make it work.

What exactly happened to your motor? Is the block blown?

If you don't have the time to do a rebuild, get the engine/trans/pcm/bcm/wiring harness off of the donor car, don't forget the passenger side axle, and just drop it in. I wouldn't do an L67 swap, instead I'd do an L32 which runs cooler and has a bit more hp than the L67.

The only problem with an L32 swap is that you'll have to swap to an L67 t/b (at the smallest) due to the electric t/b on L32's. Not a big problem though. Just something to think about with the swap.

in addition to swapping the TB from the L32 to a cable operated one, you will need to either change the injectors to L67's or change the connectors on your harness to match the new style on the L32.

(montyss02) if you are keeping your current trans you will not need to change the axles at all. swapping the axle i only for the 4t65e HD as they are diff also you can use your current harness and PCM, but the PCM will need to be flashed with a proper file to run the swap. also the adapters for the swap can be found at ZZP or WBS. you need one for the MAP and one if you are going to use the BBV. but the BBV is not required.

and to the OP. i wouldn't recommend the 5.3 swap. there are less of them out there for parts, not as easy to make power as the L67/32 engines are.
