How to make a 3.4 dohc engine last
hello i just recently fixed the idle problem on my 95 monte carlo z34 3.4 dohc i posted in earlier thread, It was a iac valve. Now that i fixed the problem i wanted to know how to make the car last i just bought it and finnaly got it working, it has 180k on it and i want it to last, also i hear problems about timing belts i dont know if they were ever changed all i can tell you when i redid the valve cover gaskets it was clean no sludge or nothing and my uncle put a computer up to the car and it doesnt have any codes flashing. people tell me these cars are trash and i kinda got screwed on the car so i just wanna make the most out of it, im afraid while driving the timing belt will go and blow up the engine, also im kinda considering selling the car and putting it towards a truck, ive drove this car once down the road and with all the bad complaints about the 3.4 dohc kinda afraid to drive it. thanks for all the help
I wouldn't be afraid to drive it- what did you hear so terrible about the 3.4?
Its not really popular on here because it had such a short run; was notorious for being a bit harder to work on than the other engines (still not terrible compared to some imports- particularly some Euro imports); and for not really having any aftermarket (due to it being a unique design and having such a short production run.
With that said, I wouldn't be scared to drive the thing.
