Default how to adjust TV cable on 05 monte carlo LS?

i removed my Throttle body a few days ago to get access so that i may replace my thermostat. now my car is surging sometimes in 3rd gear on slow acceleration. i replaced the throttle gasket but i think my TV cables aren't adjusted quite right. i can't figure out how to do this. My Haynes maunal says

1) depress re-adjust button and push slider thru fitting as far as it will go
2) Release button
3) Manually turn throttle lever to "wide Open" until readjust tab makes audible clicks.

the problem is.... I can't find this "Button" i'm supposed to push. and my manual has no pictures for this particular procedure. if someone out there could please send me some pictures on how to do this, i would be most appreciative.

Are you referring to a TV cable for a transmission? No GM trucks after 93 had them and no GM passenger cars had them after 94. The transmission is electronically controlled.

Seems like a throttle cable is what needs adjustment or else the throttle position sensor either wasn't reconnected properly, there's a wiring problem that was aggravated by the removal/reinstallation process, or the sensor is bad/damaged.

hi, thanks for the quick reply. i think it could be the throttle position sensor aswell. but yes the throttle valve cable is what i'm referring to.... it opens when you depress the gas pedal. i have the Haynes manual for my 2005 monte carlo vehicle and it says it needs to be adjusted from time to time when you notice shift problems. how do you adjust it. my manual says deperes a button and it's supposed to ratchet into place. but where is this button???? i checked all around the throttle lever and everywere nearby but i can't find it.

Ok that's just the throttle cable. The throttle valve cable is the cable that hooks up just below the throttle cable and the other end is in the transmission. This is on transmissions that are NOT electronically controlled. I don't know why the Haynes manual calls it the throttle valve cable when that's not what it's called. Causes way too much confusion for people who are used to working with 200R4s and 700R4s and whatever the non-electronic FWD transmissions were called at the time.

When I wake up (I just got home from work) I'll check into some manuals that I have access to and try to figure out your problem for you. Just hold tight as it won't be till late afternoon before I can get back to this.

Is that Haynes manual #24028? If so, it covers the Lumina, Monte Carlo & Impala from '95 through '05. The information presented is general and some of it may apply to a particualr model, but not to others. In my Haynes (24028) on page 7-3/section 6 the heading reads:

Throttle valve (TV) cable (three-speed transaxles) - replacement and adjustment.

An '05 Monte Carlo has a four-speed transaxle, not a three-speed so this info does not apply to your vehicle.

If the car is surging I'd suspect an air leak. Double check installation of the throttle body. If no leaks are found try cleaning your MAF sensor (including the electrical connector) and your TPS.

hi, thanks!!! i think it is some sort've air leak around the throttle body or bolt area. i might have bent it a bit trying to get that bottom "Hidden" bolt out. i could'nt see it and i pryed on it just a little bit. anyways, i got the Haynes manual after that and i see the error in my ways. i bought a new gasket but i may just have to torque the bolts down a bit more or perhaps get some of that liquid gasket stuff. cleaning the MAF sensor is a good idea to. I've been meaning to do this for awhile. because i do have one of those oiled air filters. they seem to play havoc with the GM MAF sensor.

well, i took off the throttle body again and checked it and it looked good. i cleaned the throttle body really well with throttle body cleander cause it did have some black carbon deposits. reinstalled it with some red high heat liquid gasket maker, waited an hour for it to set then turned the bolts half final turn or so so it should be sealed well. also sprayed the MAF sensor with some MAF cleaner spray. put it back together and it still surges at speeds around 40 to 50 miles an hour. oddlyenough it shifts fine for a minute or so when i first start the vehicle then it surges at the above mentioned speeds. when my car cools down i'm gonna look at the TPS. do these particular TPS need adgustments for the MONTE CARLO LS 05? do they need to be cleaned??

no TPS adjustment....just remove clean and replace...or replace it with a new one....(The spring wears out and sticks)

also......Quite possibly need a new Mass air flow sensor(MAF).....thats a common problem....with the issue your describeing....since it sounds like cleaning didnt help....

HINT: try unplugging the MAF....and drive it and see if runs better.
IF it does...than thats the problem....

But im still leaning towards the TPS (less expensive to fix, replace)

Unless someone else can chime in to correct me....

well, i took out the old TPS and immediatly noticed that it had no spring back whatsoever. I bought a new one and installed it and it still hesitated and surged with high RPM's at around 40 to 50 MPH. i tried unplugging the MAF and it did'nt make any differnece. i'm still leaning towards vacume leak somewhere. or possibly something completely different and not related to the removal of the throttle body {i.e. Vacume Modulator, fuel filter, injectors, plugs or wires, transmission fluid @ filter, etc...}. plugs wires, fluid and filters are relatively new. it just seems strange to me that it would be something else simply because the problem started immediatly after i removed the throttle body to get access to the T-stat. I was wondering??? could air in the radiator have an adverse effect on shift quality or vacume modulator function??? i wish the thing would throw a code or something!
