ok i just went and rented a coolent system pressure tester. ran a pressure test with with 17 psi on the gauge it droped 1 psi over a 3 minutes time frame. tested the cap it would only hold 9 psi so i think i figured out where my coolent was going. now my next question is what do you think my problem is
well i pressurized the system at 17 psi for 3 and a half hours and i had a 7 psi drop. does that sound like that i have a leak at all? should a coolint system have any pressure leak off in that amount of time

if the engine was warm when you tested it some pressure drop would be normal as i cooled off. otherwise you have a leak, if nothing is visible external, check if the oil is contaminated, also check the trans fluid for contamination, sometimes the cooler in the rad leak, but most likely the intake gaskets

Default Maybe someone can help me?

I'm having a problem with my 02 monte, When I get to about 25mph, the engine starts making a whistling noise, I've already changed the belt and tension pulley. A friend of mind told it could be the manifold gasket or the head gasket. It has a 3400 engine, with 179,000 miles.

it sucks that this has happened to you. i recently had a similar case where viery little coolant was leaking over a long time.

i had to add about a cup a month. so i finally got it fixed and am still not sure if its fixed. head gaskets

i didnt have to pay for mine but if you do get this done, gaskets are reletivly cheap, just do them all.

it was about 800 that gm picked up, ive had the a few gaskets replaced on my old lumina b4 and it ran about 500 even, with a few extras. usually when you pay cash at a non dealer they will knock off the tax.

so my suggestion is to find a mechanic thats familiar with you car and have them do it. sorry GM but the only time i will ever get my car fixed at a dealer is if its free. ive had nothing but half/a$$ed work preformed by them and am very dissapointed. then again your area might have better mechanics.
