Question Hard shifting from stop - PLEASE HELP

This morning my Monte seems to have developed an odd issue with hard shifting when starting from a full stop. After the initial hard shift, everything runs and shifts fine. No signs of slipping. This happened four times after getting off the highway this morning between the exit ramp and the office - about 5 miles / 10 minutes of stop and go driving in the city. The motor is a L67 and the trans is the 4t65e-hd, both came out of an '04 MC and were dropped into my '03 SS a year and a half (and 20k miles) ago. The motor/trans have ~69K miles on them. The previous L36/4t65e was swapped out at 197K miles due to slipping in the trans and the overall miles on both. I never felt this kind of a shifting issue on the non-hd trans, wondering if this is likely the common solenoid issue or something else?

i would have someone see if it is setting any codes. my 03 was doing something similar and it ended up being the valve body

Hi ya Kid, you mentioned cold - it was cold this morning, about 36 F when I left the house. However I was about a half hour into my commute when this started, about 15 minutes of that at highway speed. Only happened once on the way home tonight. Shocker, yes I'm probably going to find someone that can read the trans codes and see if there is anything there.

mine would do it more once it got warmed up. i drove it like that for almost a year then got it fixed. never really got any worse after a while. it would jerk into 2nd gear pretty hard and sometimes 3rd gear too

Definitely from a complete stop. After the first time I've been making sure I stopped completely to rule out anything to do with driving behavior. 1-2 shift was always harder than I would like on this trans, but this is very different and far more concerning.
