Getting the gunk out
I've heard that you can replace a couple of quarts of oil with transmission fluid during an oil change to get the gunk out of the engine.
I have a 99 Z34 with the 3800. It has 112,000 miles on it. Looking down the oil fill, I can see that there is gunk build up inside the engine.
Does anyone have any more suggestions about how to get rid of the sludge buildup inside the engine?

Trent, if you have gunk either the oil is bad or yo have an intake leaking. I would vote the intake leaking. I have 145,000 on my '99 Z34 w/the 3800 and changed upper/lower intake gaskets at 142,000. Check to see if you have white/yellow foam or severe condensation on the bottom of your oil fill cap after the car is warm. If you do, you have an intake leak.

Well it wouldn't chew it up as much at the beginning. I didn't even know I had lost any coolant until I saw it seeping from my intake. That is a good point though. I would bet that he has a seeping or leaking intake though.

You should stop-in at an AutoZone. They rent tools for free. Get a Cooling System Pressure Checker and see if the system holds pressure of bleeds-by releasing some of the pressure beyond the gaskets and seals.
If you do have that problem of the pressure not holding ... you need to investigate where its going. Some Models had an Intake Gasket that was attacked by the DexCool Stock Coolant and had the Intake Gaskets dissolve and leak.
