engine monds for a 2006

i have a 2006 monte carlo LT with the 3.5l v6. are there any mods for that motor? for ex cold air intake? would the motor be able to handle a turbo?

my monte has completly gone through a make over since i bought it stock and its all show and no go and i want to make the car live up to the monte carlo name . has anyone here done what im talking about doing?

also, how hard would it be to throw the SS motor and tranny into my monte? i know its easier to buy the real SS but this already has a full sound system wheels lambo doors custom painting interior and lights galore ha. thanks everyone

You'll need the engine and PCM from the SS.

coldairinductions.com sells an intake for your car.

getoverkilled.ca can tune the car and wake it up a little.

Not many mods for the car though. You would be looking at totally custom for the turbo.

It would not be terribly difficult to swap an LS4 into your car, it's just plug and play. With exhaust a tune and cold air on that engine it will go a long way. While the engine is out I'd do headers, it'd be a lot more tedious to do that after it's installed. The trans is the same thing, you can take it to a shop if you cannot do the work yourself. And yes, you would also need the PCM as Chibi said.

the trannys are the same? because my v6 doesnt drop to 4 cylinders? in cruise mode? and whats the PCM?

ChibiBlackSheep 08-29-2011 07:39 PM

Your transmission doesn't control the DOD. That's the engine shutting off the cylinders, not the transmission.

The 4t65e is used in both, the HD version in the SS, but you can turn your standard into the HD.

The PCM is the powertrain control module, on those cars there are 2, one for the engine and one for the transmission I believe.

Yes there is two for the LS4 SS's, not sure about the V6s...

would it be an expensive project to make the switch over to the 5.3?

ChibiBlackSheep 08-30-2011 09:30 AM

Yes. It would be a lot of down time too I would think.

I've seen LS4's go for less than 1k with under 80K miles, so it's not terribly expensive, but you will definitely have to save up some money. There is also the fee for the shop to put it in if you cannot, the trans, shipping the engine, renting the pulley to drop it in if you don't already have one or know someone kind with one.

i under stand the expense of the motor and all that. that i can deal with no problem. but my concern is is what exactly would i need. someone once told me b4 from chevy even said that id even need a whole new dash? like gauge cluster

??? not to swap motors

ChibiBlackSheep 08-30-2011 02:07 PM

if you went from the 2000-2005 to the LS4 you would need to take the dash. I doubt you would need that for your swap.

I imagine it's mostly just the wiring harness, PCM, and engine.

I dont know about the dash/cluster, im pretty sure the only difference is that the ss cluster has some fancy white accents? Im not a mechanic so i have no idea what this has to do with an engine swap. As far as the PCM goes i can tell you what your looking at on the 3.5 V6. I bought a canned tune from overkillmotorsports and i couldnt be happier. Only problem is it did not get rid of my speed limiter as it mentions but this does not affect me as i dont go over 107 too often.... and i cant use the benefits of E-85 ever since the tune.

If you take apart your air intake box and have a look inside the box mounted on the bottom of it you will see 2 computer modules. One big one with tons of wires going to it is the main PCM module, the second component mounted standing upwards to the right of the main module is actually the transmissions control module portion of the PCM. The 2 components go hand in hand so when i bought my PCM from overkill i did receive both components because they do tune some major aspects of your transmission such as shift points.

I could not tell you if the 2 modules you will find in your 3.5 are the same as in the 5.3 but, the tune is amazing by far. Check out my thread incase you might be interested!

Plain and simply there are not much for us to upgrade on our 3.5's other then the exhaust, intake and a tune. Ive done all 3 so far and i couldnt be happier, i love the 3.5. But i do wish you luck on whatever you may plan on doing with your monte!

what is your car putting down for HP after all of that? and what do you have for intake and exhaust? headerS?
