DrifTahoe engine swap

So I'm being optomistic and hoping my income tax check will be around $800. Why? Because one of my friends that helped me rebuild the Tahoe after the wreck has a friend with a turnkey GMPP HT383E (Vortec 383) crate engine. It has 0 miles, still in the crate wrapped in plastic. He can't do anything with it, so he told my friend he'd take $800 for it. Luckily its not publicly for sale...
I do have a few questions though.

1. Will I have to do anything to my transmission? Its got probably 50,000 miles on a 2nd rebuild. (I drive it pretty hard though.)

2. What should I do computer-wise?

3. Have any of y'all done this? Any advice?

I have a Tahoe also, but you do realize that this is a monte carlo forum, right?

He does, its more of a general question. Lol

Id say get a torque converterand flush the tranny... he does have an external tranny cooler.

Try fullsizechevy.com I'm sure there are plenty of people over there that know and have done this swap. You'll get way more info.

What year Tahoe is it? I think that whatever year hoe it is, you are going to need to upgrade the tranny at some point. I am assuming that it is a 4l60e, correct? This tranny does have some weak links and they will show up with the more power you throw at it. (They are rated for 360ish ft/lbs of torque.)
Also, (without knowing anything specs on the 383, or your Tahoe), you may have some compatibility issues (fuel delivery, injection, definitely computer, etc.). Nothing that can not be overcome, it will just take some research, knowledge, and cash.
That being said, 800 bucks is a price I would jump at all day long!:Dp

It's a 1998. It is indeed a 4L60E. The HT383E has around 330hp/430tq. I have done some research and GMPP said it would bolt right into fsc's with Vortec 5.7's... but yeah at $800, I really can't afford not to buy it, especially since I pretty much plan on keeping my truck forever. It holds a lot of sentimental value...

Try checking with gmfullsize.com. Those guys over there seem pretty knowledgeable, and I am certain someone over there has done this exact swap in a Vortec equipped truck. GL
