Default dextron 4 or 6??? help

ok so i had to get my trans cooler line replaced and got a deal on the flush so im going to get it done.

i have an 07 LT with regular tranny 3.5 motor

i thought i read on here that i had to use dextron 4 , but the mechanic says i should use 6 per the manufacturer.

i want my powertrain warrenty to still be good. thanks in advance.

He is right, Dexron 6 is the new spec from GM. GM never made Dexron 4.

I sent you a pretty detailed PM with more info on it.

ok so the part finally came in today and i got my line fixed, along with a tranny flush. full cleaner/conditioner pumped through and fill with sythetic dextorn six. by the way it was 20$ extra for synthetic

30,500 miles

what a difference, my car used to buck when it shifted to second and now it seems more responsive, quiet, and babys butt smooth shifting.

i recommend doing this maintenance to all with doubts.

i took it to a place ive been to b4 called MotorMate they do good work with knowlageable mechanics, next day. so i like um.

everyone on here suggested not doing the flush, due to the shock of the system afterwards, but they run a conditioner through that coats the teeth untill the fluid hits.

its 140 normal with tax. since i got the line replaced they knocked of twenty bucks, then i told them about the dextron 6{synthetic} and it ended up being 140 again. lol long story short it took about 1 hour 45 min and they even gave me a ride home and picked me up when it was done. i was kind off mad that i needed to spend money to fix my lower transcooler line so soon, but am very pleased with the results.

what i go by is word of mouth.
either that or just go talk to them, more than likely if they spend the time to discuss your problem in detail, give you an estimate with no surprise fees, and keep a clean shop, i would give them a try. thats all you can do.

by the way ususally you can take there quote and compare that price to another shop b4 you get screwed.

normally i would do repairs myself, if i can tackle the job and have the right tools. my friend told me a horror story about him replacing a transcooler line himself, it leaking, and setting his engine on fire. so i took it to a shop, needless to say.

glad you got your line replaced. 140 to fix the line and flush isnt a bad price at all. i could of sworn our cars take dex iv(4)

no it was 240 for both. 140 for the clean and fill. i know it sounds expensive but i feel it was worth it and best of all now ppl wont tell me that i leave red puddles in there driveway.

mamonte tells me that there is only " III [3] " and " VI [6] " our cars came with 6.

That is correct, Dexron IV (4) does not exist, only dexron VI (6)...Dexron 6 replaced Dexron 3.

Mak330, wasn't your tranny line covered under warranty??? You have an 07, therefore you have 100,000K powertrain???????
