Default Clicking Noise from '06 SS

I am currently facing a troubling situation with my Monte Carlo. Whenever DOD is engaged at lower speeds (only time it can be heard due to road noise) ~30mph or less, i hear a ugly clicking/ratcheting noise coming from the front end. I have now had it into one GM dealer 3 times and took it to another last week. Everytime they replace something, every time nothing is solved. I have had the front bearings replaced, tensioner assembly, dew sheild (yes one dealer thought it was a dew sheild making the noise), and the last time a cleaning of the rim. No avail. It has now since been taken back again and hooked up to a recorder during the noise and I am awaiting results. If results check out the dealer is going to attempt to get a Chevrolet mechanic out. Anyone else had this problem, or heard of this problem? It is only when Displacement on Demand is in 4-cylinder mode and immediately ends when it is up-shifted to 8-cylinder.

hmmm, thats got me stumped, i've never heard of anything like that happening before....maybe your car was put together late on a friday afternoon...lol jk jk

i would venture a guess @ something internal if its only doing it when switching from 4cyl to 8 cyl.....or is it doing it all the time??

Haven't had that problem 20K on my 06 SS. Could it be the solenoid that supplies the engine oil pressure the the lifter that disables each cylinder? Or maybe a lifter itself. I have also read that the quality and weight of the oil itself can effect the operation of the solenoids and lifters.

If I were to guess I would say what you hear is the solenoid.

Just took my 06 LS4 Monte SS to dealer today! On very cold mornings, the engine Ticks LOUDLY for about 10-15 minutes... then as car warms, tick becomes very faint but never truly goes away; if you listen closely its always there. I have about 16K miles and dont hammer on it. I believe its something internal? However, I've never noticed any difference in sound when switching from 8 to 4...

Just received call from Chevrolet. They definitely found something wrong internally. Will have to do more testing to determine the extent of damage, but as of now they wil at least have to "replace all lifters in one bank"... I will post more when I get the car back. Gotta go... ENTERPTRISE RENTAL is here to pick me up!

It could be the lifters. At the gm dealership I work at.... I have seen one LS4 so far that did the sameticking noise like 06LS4 was sayingduring the initial start up. Lifters had to be replaced and it solved the problem. Car had 30k on it.

06LS4: Chevrolet ran some type of "engine cleaner" through the motor, per GM's instructions; now they are waiting to start the car on Monday morning 2/10/08 to see if the ticking stops... (It's below 0 degrees in Michigan so the timing couldn't be better)! If it still ticks, they will get theauthorization from GM to go inside and replace the lifters. Will let you know what happens tomorrow? Have you noticed any other problems with the 2006 Monte SS LS4?

Default Same Exact Problem...

Hey, I actually have the SAME problem and I've been to the dealer twice with no fixes...they keep fixing parts and everytime I drive away I hear the sound again within the first few seconds after I hit the 4 cylinders...

As long as you drive around in 1st, 2nd or 3rd gear when the 8 cylinders is still on, there is no sound, but as soon as you shift into drive, there is it. It's so ANNOYING!

I'm having a different dealer take a look at it soon and hopefully they'll figure it out...just glad I'm not alone on this one!

Did you have yours fixed yet?

I sure hope it's been fixed. This issue is 2 years old. lol I have an '06 SS too and I haven't ever heard this before.

Just keep bothering the dealer.
