Default check engine light is on

Yesterday I started up the car and my CEL was on. The car ran normal and didn't sound differently. I drove the car a total of about 40 miles yesterday. The light never went out. This comes three days after the oil was changed and 6 days after putting in a K&N drop in filter. I read somewhere that the oil from the filter could clog the MAF. Should I start there? I am getting the spark plugs replaced tomorrow and the tranny gluid is going to be drained and filled along with a new filter. Any help is appreciated.

Gotta get that code read. Either go to a place and have it scanned or buy a cheap code reader

deff want to see the code before you do more work to it. cause if it is a misfire code you wont know if the plugs and wires caused it or was there before. get it scanned

Yeah usually places like AutoZone will scan if for you for free and tell you what is wrong with it

I never knew that. Thank you. There is one about 5 minutes from me. I will head up there and post what I find out.

Update: I just got back from Auto Zone. I have a cylinder misfire- random cylinders. I was told that I should look at the 4 causes of the code:

1. Ignition system fault-spark plug (s), ignition wires, coil
2. Vacuum leak
3. Injector fault
4. High or low fuel pressure

As I left the parking lot, the check engine light went out. Odd.

I have the same problem as far as the misfiring....local guy told me to put some injector cleaner in the gas and it should go away but its been 3 times I have put the cleaner in and no signs of it getting better...almost getting worse...hope you solve your problem and if you do let us know what worked for you!

I am getting the spark plugs done tomorrow. I hope that cures it.

I don't think the bulb burnt out. I think it went off because it is intermittent.

My spark plugs were taken out and they were brand new. My friend then put my car in reverse and hammered the gas. He determined that all 6 cylinders were firing and there are no dead cylinders. With those tests passed, he determined that my injectors are filthy. My throttle body is spotless as well. He then put in 6oz of Lucas Oil injector cleaner. I will be doing this every 3,000 miles for the foreseeable to clean the injectors. I am guessing it has never been done.
