I kno when gettin a cam i gotta get new valvesprings and timing belt, if i go with 1.9 yella terra rockers do i need to buy anything other than valvesprings?

You only need the valve-springs if you want to tune the car further than 5900 RPM before a shift.

For install you should buy reusable rocker bolts and new valve cover gaskets.

I keep hearing do a cam instead...i think im gonna go with a s1x cam. And also how much does adding a cam hurt mpg? Any advice when camming a car??

Our cars don't have timing belts. Also, if you're worried about mileage, then don't modify cars because you will waste a lot of fuel driving your car hard. It's not uncommon though for modified 3800 cars to still get mid to upper 20 mpg's.

I get 16 in town, 26 on the highway

If you want a cam, I would suggest an XP hot cam from ZZP, I believe you can use stock heads with it

Get this cam, double roller timing chain, and some ls6 valve springs and call it good. Honestly no 3800 cams available for stock heads are going to be big enough to need lifters/ pushrods/ etc. The instal will be a pain in the ***, but if you are going to do a turbo down the road, why not now. Then you will have all new gaskets all the way up, and you can worry about the turbo part, not about tearing the engine apart and a turbo all at once. That can become a mess or take a while.

Oh im not too concerned with mpg i was just curious. Im gonna buy a beater in October so my Monte will be my project. But i just read a review on the xp cam looks like a winner! Lol Idk how to install it tho but i really wanna learn! Is it more of a pain then installing headers?? Cuz god almighty that was a pain! Lol

Yes, a cam install is definitely more of a PITA than just doing headers.

From what i know about cam install... Youd have to pull the engine, valve covers, rockers, rods, harmonic balancer, timing cover, timing chain, timing gear (for the cam), then cam., reassemble while making sure thetiming is dead on, them everything else, drop engine back in... Youre done.

if the 3800 is like the ls4 you dont have to pull the whole motor out of the car you can do the cam swap through the wheel well. and ill assume by rods you mean push rods not connecting rods. i can assure you it is easier to do with the motor out of the car though. speaking of which, op isnt your current motor a replacement from a buick? i could be thinking of another user. if it is im sure you wish you would have done that cam before the swap.
