Default Blower Motor Resister question

Hello. Since May, I've installed two new Blower Motor
Resistors on my 2000 Monte Carlo. After about a week, they just
stop working. In both cases, I got a puff of black smoke through
the vents and they just quit. My blower does work when the fan is
on the highest setting.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

Any assistance would be appreciated. Thank you!.....scott

The blower motor resistor is a common problem. It's believes that a design flaw in the water diverter under the cowl allows rain and other water that hits the car to get in and moisen the resitor and the blower motor causing a premature failure. A lot of times people will find that the passenger side carpet is also wet when the diverter fails.

I highly recommend getting the $4 part listed in this thread (even if your carpet is NOT getting wet after it rains). The process is a piece of cake and I installed one in my Monte (I had the part BEFORE the problem occurred and then put one in our '05 Impala as a preventative).

I hope this helps! If anything it can't hurt (much better then the original design, while in there, spend the $10 and replace the cabin air filter too).
