6th Gen ('00-'05): belt squeal and coolant?

belt squeal and coolant?
Hey there folks I had a question in the early am when I first start the belt seems to be making a squealing noise, eventually it dies down. Now I notices what seems to be coolant on top of the crank o ully but not sure if this is the cause or I should change the belt seeing as though it was also on the replacement engine. Heres a few pics

Since you don't know the history of the belt, I would definitely throw a new gatorback on there.
While the belt is off, make sure none of the pulleys are making noise, and check around the elbows for coolant. I would clean it all off and then see if you can pinpoint a leak if there is one

From the pics it looks like the bearing is worn in the water pump (the initial squeal you hear). When the bearing wears it elongates the seal and coolant will leak exiting the 'weep' hole in the bottom of the water pump housing.
I would replace the water pump and belt. I would also check the tensioner, and from the looks of that water I would definitely do a professional backflush on the cooling system.

From the location where the coolant is on the engine I would take an inspection mirror and look at the back lower housing of the water pump for a water trail. The squeal stops when the engine warms up because the grease that lubes the bearing in the water pump finally gets lubrication 360° around the bearing instead of just sitting on the bottom.

If you spray water onto the belt while the engine is running and the squeal goes away it's a belt, try it the next time. If the squeaking persists then it is a bearing, as the bearings are sealed and water cannot get to them and lube em even for a second to stop the squeal.
With that being said if your belt tensioner spring is going bad it to could cause your belt to be loose and squeal.

So did the leak stop also when you changed the belt? Until you fix the coolant leak it will contaminate the new belt (like it did the old one) and it too will eventually begin to squeal.
