Default Air Intake question moved

05,

I moved this topic from the help board as it was drifting off topic.

Any suggestioins on the best air intake?
The fenderwell CIA on PFYC has been the best rated CIA. But, I took a little different approach to CIA, I pulled the factory airbox apart and removed quite a bit of plastic with a rotozip tool, and replaced the factory filter with a K&N filter. I noticed a huge improvement in performance and sound.

i did this at first with my car, which was not a MC, but after the fact, i found it was a bit better with a full CAI, but the big problem with my stock box was the fact that it had water traps everywhere, which create LOTS of internal turbulence...

Interesting.........

I'm going to have to pull that thing apart again this weekend to get a better airflow snapshot.

Are you referring to the grating at the bottom of the air box?

my stock air tube came abck and behind the MAFS it had a water catch...then right before it bent into the TB, it had another...plus, it was only 2.5 inch, and when i took it off and looked inside, it has lots of places where it goes smaller than 2.5 inches..

ebay search for username liveonspeed

thats who made my cheapo CAI, and i bought a K&N filter, and i love my 70 dollar CAI. [8D]

TVW- think you could do a step by step on your intake mod?

I was thinking about going aftermarket, and may still do so, but I can get a True Flow air filter which flows better than a K and N, filters better than a K and N and costs less than a K and N, for $36. And seeing how the airbox inlet is behind the headlight, im thinking I may simply add some ducting to extend the inlet to just behind the lower part of the bumper to direct more cold air into the intake. That way, it looks stock, yet flows/filters/ and performs better.

I have this mod on my list for the DIY area. I have a four day weekend this weekend, I'll see what I can do.

It's quite simple, but lord forbid you cut plastic in the wrong areas.. lol

As far as the opening right behind the headlight, I cut away all the plastic matching the frame opening, I think it made a huge difference in air flow.

I'll take some pics this weekend.
